Just went from a '99 3500 to an '01 2500. First reaction - I really miss the comfort of the seats, however I missed the comfort of my '97 so I think it's a matter of settling into them.

Big difference though is the ride and the freeway hop. The 2500 is definitely higher (3 inches at the tailgate). Rides noticeably rougher - wife also was immediately aware. And the freeway hop is much worse.

Pulled the 5th wheel around the block for the first time yesterday and the short run also seemed much harsher than I remembered with the '99.

Any comments or ideas on this? I would like to know why just for why and would like to know if it is practical to soften the ride.

Dont know what to say about the seats as they are the same.

As for the ride ????? New truck, new shocks ???

Towing -- I have RS9000 shocks and have them set to 5( stiff ) on rear for towing ( smoothest ride ) adn 1 ( softest ) for normal driveing. With stock shocks the rear bounced and jounced too much, replaced them at 10k miles

The seats are the pits on the 2001. Much too hard, you bounce around alot. I would prefer something like Captains Chairs which are softer and more contoured to hold you in. Also find the steering way too light. It's lighter than the steering on my Grand Prix. Would much prefer a heavier feel.

Just my 2 Canadian pesos worth.

100% agree on the Rancho 9000 shocks . . I like a different setting but the shocks cured a bunch of ride issues

Is it a short box? cause if it is your 3500 was 2 feet longer, and also heavier.

Thanks for the quick replys. Same box, same quad cab, same hitch. Both trailer towing and camper packages including overloads and swaybar. Only noticeable difference is the loss of the training wheels and the changed differential.

The Rancho shocks sound like the answer to helping the ride. Would you go 4 wheels on a 2x4 or only the rear?

Jack - How do you like the GearVendors?

GV is ok. 75 mph in direct GV od is 2200 rpm. 200 rpm higher than od. Pulls hills better in 3rd GV od than od unlocked at same rpm and speed.
Taylor Wing good for 3mph increase towing. It seems frontal area is more critical to towing mileage than weight. I now get the same mileage pulling 5th as with car hauler ( flat bed ). last trip av 11. 5 w/ 5th and same trip w/ flat bed was 12. 6k lbs diff in weight. Bob tail with wing up 14, w/o wing 17.

Hey guys, these are trucks,I think one could could expect for them to ride a little rough. Mine does ride better than most of the duallys I have been in.

Roadmasters and aftermarket shocks made quite a difference in ride quality on my 2001 4x4. Other options I have considered are a heavy rear bumper as I have noticed a big difference in ride when I have as little as 100lbs of cargo in the rear of the bed. The other option is removing the bottom spring from both rear spring packs and using air bags to adjust ride height and spring rate when towing/hauling. The spring removal idea was suggested by a fellow TDR menber who has tried it.
