Computer GODs please help.

I have a Ruger 30. 06 bolt action with a 3 x9 scope. To this I shoot 30. 06 accelerators ( 55 gr bullet witha plastic sabot - goes about 4000 FPS ! I would use the . 06 - it has the best choice of bullet weights and you can shoot anyhting from varmits to Elk with it. .

Aught-Six !

Gotta love the old . 06! What is it bad at? Nothing! The ol girl has done it all. Undefeated on the battlefield, only a desire for select fire killed it. The M-1 could have been given a magazine conversion easily, seen it done before. I am biased, I own 2 of the three most desirable 30. 06`s ever built: An M-1 Garand, and a pre 64 Winchester Model 70. All I need to fill out the set is a B. A. R. ! They can share ammo in a pinch, though each has preferences. The . 06 is still King! Go anywhere in the west, there is . 06 ammo on the shelf for sale. It does the job efficiently without fanfare, or excess recoil. Don.

Accelerators ... sweeeeet. I'd love to shoot them sometime.

My shooting buddy had an -06, so I went & bought a 25-06, Weatherby Vanguard. For mule deer, I experimented with 120gr, 100gr & 90gr hollow point boat tail. The 90 grainer won out, by far. Instant kill as where the others basically punched a small hole. The 90 grainer actually lifted a couple off their feet! Goes to prove the speed & shock theory. :)

30-30

It is safe to say the . 30-30 is now outdated?
Didn`t Jack O`Connor take a Grand Slam with the 30-30? We got Savage bolt 30-30 to teach the wife to shoot . Other than the clip, it is a neat little rig. Flat ruins a deer`s day with the 150`s. As neat a little carbine cartridge as it is, it is way cool in a T. C. Contender with a more ballistic bullet! Don.

I put my vote in for 30-06. Love the Garand and the 1903-A3.

I have a sporterized 1903-A3 that I acquired from a friend. When he first bought it I made him up some reloads and we went to the range to check it out. I spotted for him at 100 yards while he adjusted the scope. First shot was on paper but could not see the second or third. I had him adjust the scope up 4 clicks and take 3 more shots. The gun had made two 3 shot raggedy holes in a row:) The gun has a maple stock with a Timney trigger.

Have you ever tried making a real quiet 30-06? My favorite is 10 grains of Win 231 behind a 125 grain lead bullet and a large pistol primer. Cheap for plinking and kicks like a . 22 LR.

Try it at your own risk. There is more data online on this subject.

About as safe to say the 30-06 is. There are PLENTY of belted and non belted magnum cartridges that perform better than the 06 could ever dream of. But that cartridge is so popular, tried, and proven it will take generations to die off. I still like the 30-30, it's a neat carbine round, outdated? hehehe can o' worms. can o' worms.

I like the little 30-30 for woods hunting. I use to carry one on my horse all the time but know have a 45-70. Of course for normal deer hunting I use my . 308. It's what I shot quite often while I was in the service and I've always liked it for deer. The 45-70 is just because I like cowboy guns. LOL
