BHAF... where to buy?

Pretty much settled on Rips 4 inch system which I'll buy and put on in early spring ( which the way the cold has been should be in august LOL), but have a couple of quick questions.

1) Is there any "bad" or annoying drone? If so what RPMs and what could be done to minumize it? I know bad and annoying are pretty subjective, but I have a feeling that if it annoys someone else it probably would me too.

2) How loud is it? I dont mind loud but my wife and my 3 month old daughter probably will. I'm looking for a nice mellow sound. We take my truck everywhere.

3) I plan on using the band type clamps, but would also get the hanger set for easier installation. Can they be used together, ie: do the hangers attach elsewhere other than the joints where the bands would be? Or are the hanger u-bolts big enough to go over the band clamps?

4) I have a 2001. 5 2500 QC with a short bed. Will I have to cut/tweek/etc anything to get it to fit.

5) It looks like ( atleast from the web site) that the furthest back section (over the axle) pipe has some pretty big bends in it, when compared to other systems. Is this true or just appears that way on the computer? Also if the bends are there has anyone seen any bad side effects?

6) Michigan winters are pretty harsh and the road commission really loves to throw the salt. How will the system hold up to these conditions. I would hate to have to replace it a few years down the road. Also any tips to keeping the salt and winter related problems off of the system ie: paint or rust proofing etc?

Dont really want to go SS due to the cost.

Well that should do it. The 2 questions I had when I sat down kinda grew. If I think of anything else I'll re-post.

FOr those who have this system and reply Thanks in advance for your help.

Rip is a stand-up guy. He'll truthfully answer all your questions.

No affiliations and I have someone else's system.

I love it.......

I can't say about the hangers as I made my own. But they should be able to be moved enough to accomodate the strap clamps. On my 01 I switched to the allied Rip sells and was able to move the brackets that came with that system out of the way.

As far as drone, the lesson I learned in the 01 was to move the muff as far forward as possible. On the 02 we put in Rip's system and it worked fine mounting the muff right after the first straight pipe. No drone. His sytem isn't very loud. In the cab it's similar to stock but if you go by a wall under load you can definitely tell the difference. The sound is awesome.

Go for it,

You'll like Rips Exhaust. He's an awesome guy and stands behind his work.

As soon as I start upgrading the wifes engine, I will be purchasing Rips exhaust for her truck!!!

I've got Rips exhaust on my 1st gen. It doesn't have a drone like

some. I've heard. It was quieter than the 3" system that I had before. The only reason I can think of is that the sound gets out rather than being trapped just behind the cab. Ive been very pleased:) .

You would be happy with Rip's 4" exhaust system. I just spent part of a day with him while he installed his system on my QC long box. When he installs the system it is all welded, but I am sure the kit he sends out is just as good a system. No drone, nice sound, a bit louder and deeper tone outside but seems quieter in the cab. Good system and great guy.

I drove from home to Portland with an old VA PCP and the stock exhaust, got 18. 7 mpg. Rip installed the 4" exhaust and I bought and installed an Edge Pulse from him, removed the VA, didn't hook up the pump wire, and got 20. 6 mpg on the trip home. The engine is much more responsive also. It will be interesting to see if the mpg is higher with the 5th wheel.
