Those of you with a 4" Rip exhaust system are you using the muffler?? and if so what it sound like compared to no muffler??

and is the Rip muffler straight thru??.

I just had to order a new manifold because my original is leaking real bad and looks like it shrunk a 1/2" so i figured i'd redo the whole exhaust system, and while talking to Mark At PDR just could'nt resist a set of POD's, gonna have to buy some lotto tickets so i can get that HX35 x 16.

i would;nt mind the exhaust to be a little quieter but not back like my old Banks muffle ... ... ... ... . Rick

Rick,

That’s what I've got on my rig (with a 5" stainless tip ;)). I think it sounds great. I haven't ever heard someone say that they didn't like the sound of Rips systems. The muffler (which I am using) is an Allied truck muffler which is a straight through design, with many small tabs that stick out about 1/8" - 1/4. " I like the sound with a muffler better than straight piped (I gonna get some crap for that  ). The sound is smooth, not like a tractor. It has a nice deep tone under normal driving conditions, but roars at WOT. Oo. Inside the cab with the windows up it really isn’t any louder, just a deeper tone. With a window down it’s a little louder though. :D

Rips

I have a rips 4" with a straight though muffler. I think it sounds better than ANY other system out there. I was even able to have the master Ripster put it on for me. It also is the BEST price 4" system out there. Eric

I must agree with ol' smokey. Rip Allied system is first class all the way.

But I am tipless :( oh well there goes the next upgrade

One thing to note for the first gen system - The downpipe is just like the factory 3" unit. If you want a 4" downpipe you will have to buy it separate from another source.

Well guys i went ahead and ordered RIP's exhaust, can't wait to get workin on it, the weather is finally drying out a little, been so crappy around here lately hav'nt been able to do anything to the old truck.

Hopefully the POD's will get the fuel i want (need) they should flow more than the The Janetties i've got in now, i keep some good before and after readings ... ... ..... Rick

E Waagener,

Rip's systems are "complete. " (Well, they don’t come with hangers because some use the stock hangers. Hangers can be purchased from him if needed. Also, clamps are omitted because some like to weld the joints. He has these if needed also. ) For some reason the kit uses a 3" down pipe and is 4" from there on. There are only two places that I know of that make a 4" down pipe for first gens. Unfortunately, this kit is not one of them. But a good kit none the less.
