For those of you that purchased the rear bumper, what did you do for the license plate lamps? The holes are 1. 25" and I have yet to find any lamp with that diameter. Plenty of 1" lights and I may be forced to cut a metal plate to adapt what is readily available.

I went to NAPA auto parts and found the license plate lights. I added a ground wire to the light so I did not have to mess up the powder coat to get a good ground. They are the simple push in kind and the only size they had in stock. Perfect fit

Road Armor Group Purchase

Anybody from the first group purchase earlier this year - how did it go? Are you happy with the product, price, & delivery time? Any other installation issues besides the rear bumper license plate lights? My husband has been interested in getting new bumpers and I want to surprise him with the best set I can find!

Thanks for your advice!

Looking at getting the Group Buy going as early as next week, I am going to start it in a new thread so folks don't have to sift through the 14 pages here on the old group buy. I will attach a link so people can view info on the bumpers and pictures in this thread however.

Thanks Mike. Sorry to hear you are having about the same luck as me. They told me it was $300 dollars for shipping. I asked why so much; I didn't need overnight shipping. They said it was so high because of the quality wrapping which would prevent "damage". I did get a call back from Jim. He assured me (again) that my bumper was heading to be powder coated and shipped. Nine days later nothing. I would be real curious to hear how other people who got in on the group purchase did. Good luck with at least getting the touch-up paint.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, did you get things straightened out ? I would also recomend to anybody to call them instead of e-mailing.

Paul, was yours damaged or just late in shipping ?

As far as the whole in the front, you can bolt up a fairlead for a winch even if you don't have one, or I believe they sell a license plate holder that bolts up in its place as well.

Out of the over twenty bumpers sold during the last GP this is the only compliants I have heard of unless folks aren't posting. Jim told me he makes absolutly no money on shipping hence earlier in the post he said people who were close enough could pick them up at the shop.

I can say that since the last GP they are now distributing through 4 Wheel Parts, they have around 40 stores, they have also installed a robotic welding station and have brought on a top notch industrial designer out of Honda for product styling. They also brought on a very experienced structural engineer, he is also an expert in Solidworks 3D relational solid modeling. Through his expertise there product development time has gone from weeks to several days.

My bumpers took about 4 months from the time I ordered to the time I got them. The only thing I was really unhappy about was the 3rd gen bumpers winch mount. It is setup for a foot down mounting which is only good for a 9500 Warn or the milemarkers. The 10k, 12k and 16. 5 Warn all use a foot forward mount with two bolts in the rear facing down. Road Armor says to mount the big Warn's foot down and slide them up against the front of the bumper to keep it from rotating. I emailed Warn about it and they said I could shear the bolts and/or damage the end housing on the winch by mounting it foot down. I ended up getting the Milemarker 12k electric which is a foot down mount. I finally mounted the bumper and I do like the look and fit.

More Road Armor

Thanks for your replies and PM's. Here is a pic of the front bumper (GhostRider's?) that I want to order. It appears to be a non-winch bumper with a front receiver so maybe it wouldn't have the big gap on top. Doesn't look like it. We want to use a portable winch set-up so we can switch from front to back.

SWilcox,

I was in on the group purchase last year and bought a front and rear bumper. My problems were as follows, it took several months to get them, the front bumper came first and was fairly easy to install and had no fitment issues. The rear bumper finally showed up after numerous calls. I have a dually and the rear bumper had fiment issues, I had to fabricate spacers to keep it from hitting the fenders and I also did not like the small hardware that was sent to attach their receiver hitch to the truck's frame, there were also no holes provided for the rear license plate lights or the license plate itself. I just did not hook my license plate lights up. Also the holes provided for the trailer plug did not align up with the factory plug and had to be redrilled.

My truck is white so I had them powdercoat them in glacier white. This is the poorest powdercoating I have seen. Both bumpers are chipping and rust is showing up. It is very thin, looks more like paint than powdercoating. A big flake just came off at the car wash today.

My advice would be don't get a rear bumper if you have a dually and don't pay extra for a color, just take the color that comes with the base bumper and take it to a local powdercoater.

Sorry to complain but when you shell out the money they want for these bumpers, they should have the these little problems ironed out. I wish I would have known this before. If I was to do it over, I would buy the Buckstops.

In closing, they look good on the truck and are a big improvement over the factory bumpers as far as strength is concerned. My biggest gripe is the powdercoating, I will probably get them recoated this summer.

Sherri,

Ghost Rider does accept a winch, there is a plate on top of the bumper that you remove when you install the winch. Oh, by the way, the license plate covers the winch cable hole. :D

Big Bob, that is a gorgeous truck! Looks very clean the way you set it up. Did you have Road Armor powder coat that or do it yourself?

My bumper was powdercoated by Road Armor, however it rusted before I got it home (600 miles). But, I must say that Jim at Road Armor took care of the cost of getting it re-powdercoated.

I got the winch plate from Road Armor as an option. I had to modify the one they gave me, Jim said that by accident they sent me the wrong one, again Road Armor paid for the modifications and powdercoating.

I really like the bumper! Get compliments everyday!

Road Armor took care of me and I am happy with my purchase. :D

BIG BOB --

I got mine installed today. I must say that I had SEVERAL issues and problems to say the least. I spoke with the same person at Road Armor (or should I say Armor Road as their decal on my bumper says) and he was less than helpful and offered excuses and ways to fix it myself, all of which would incur costs.

I just posted my experience in this thread, let me know what your thoughts are... .

David,

Sorry to hear of your problems with Road Armor. I have just the front bumper and had no problem with the installation. Like I stated above, my issues were with the powdercoating.
