effective?

The flyer says it's 99% effective at controlling the drip, but only 65+% effective at controlling the aerosols (the stuff that covers the engine with oil). That means that about 35% of the aerosols still get out. It still appears to vent to atmosphere right in front of the engine.

I could care less about the drip, it's the mess on the engine that I didn't like. I ran about 8' of hose out the back to the transmission skid plate to keep the aerosol mess out of the engine compartment.

Here are a couple of photos where you can relocate the bottle and do away with the fumes and the oil being blown on the front of the engine from the fan. The parts cost less than $5. 00. This photo is where the bottle was on the 2002.

Z man do you ever see any blow by smoke at a stoplight? I have my tube in the same spot as yours and I sometimes see a little smoke at a stoplight.

HTRDHLR - Yeah, I occasionally see it when stopped. The first time I saw it, I thought I had a big problem! I'm kinda surprised that there is still noticeable blow-by at 48k miles.

My tube is in the same spot and I often see quite a bit of smoke. This is all normal and just be glad it is no longer getting piped into the cab! :) I occassionally get comments from people saying that "something is disconnected on your truck".

Hi saw what seemed to be a simple solution for the oily mess on the front of our engines. about a year ago somebody posted a solution which consisted of draining the little bottle whenever you change oil and then putting a childs sock over the bottle and tieing it on with light wire. have had it on for 25k works good no mess, cheap. Tube extension

I also got tired of the oil drips on the front suspension so I extended the vent tube to exit just before the rear axle. I do remember seeing the "cloud of mist" in the headlights, sometimes.

Now, with the extension, I see the cloud more often. At first I

thought that the darn truck had caught on fire.

I did not imagine that there was that much blowby:( . Is there a way to reduce the "smoke"? I was thinking of adding a bung to the exhaust pipe and hooking up the vent tube extension to it. Would that work or would it put too much draw on the engine?

Say a setup on a superstock hemi to deal with the blowby and crankcase venting -- thought it might work with the Diesel?

Hook the blowby/vent tube to the downpipe after the turbo? Would it cause and over pressure or would it suck the engine dry and burn off the goop?

Comments/suggestions?

Crankcase vent tube

I tossed the bottle and downtube. Bought 10' of hose and went up and under the air-ram and back down the dip-stick tube. Then treaded the hose along the fuel lines and tucked it into the frame. Cost less then ten bucks and I can wash off the oil mist on the frame when I go to the carwash.

Pretty simple really. It'll take you all of ten minutes to install.
