Travelling through another province last week, I somehow managed to get a pile of Yellow line paint in the wheel wells, and on the paint on the fenders.

I tried bug and tar remover. Nada. Tried gasoline. Nada.

Anyone know what product will take this paint off, without taking off the original paint?

Shawn

Shawn... .

I had the same thing happen with my 97Dakota..... what a mess.

Call a detail shop and see what they recommend. I bought some stuff from a shop that was principally solvent. It worked great, and was not harmful to my paint. Takes all the wax off, as you would expect.

Also, on the black plastic wheel-well area, once it is set up hard, I used a plastic credit card type thingie to just scrape/chip it off. It worked well, too.

Took almost 6-7 hrs. to get it all :(

Might call the hwy dept. and ask them. You're surely not the first one who would call, and they probably know what works.

I have had a similar experience with the "highway paint" mess,,I have a good friend of mine here in PA where I'm from that works for PennDOT,,When I discussed the frustration of removing it he told me this,,Buy the highest percentage concentrate of over the counter rubbing alcohol(round here its at 90%) ,,Apply to a soft cotton cloth and carefully rub it off,,It will soften up as you go and keep in mind that patience is needed when removing it(more I worked on mine, the more upset I got,,No signs were out telling of fresh paint and it happened to me the day before the Chrysler meet at Carlisle this year),,After your done wax the area of body you removed it from and for the wheel wells I use most any type of tire foam to touch them up,,Let me know how you make out... .

A fellow NW BOMBer recently came back from a trip and had gotten road paint all over the truck. The whole truck is getting repainted.

Thanks guys, I'll try all of what you have suggested.

That paint is incredibly annoying.

I'll post back if and when something is successful.

Shawn.

Remove yellow paint?

Remove paint without removing paint on truck get some mineral spiret at walley world about onefifty or so a gal . soft rag and take your time after finish wash with clear water then was with car wash ect flush with water dry and wax. Try small spot on fender edge in wheel well see how it goes . Ron in Louisville KY    :D

For your wheels wells they have that blackout stuff you can get done at a detail place. It blackens that wheel wells and the springs etc. . Looks pretty sharp. They also have that acid stuff to blacken tires that works good too. For the paint I cant help you.

good luck

just got my baby back from the auto shop.

complete repaint and most plastic parts replaced

Total cost $5400. 00 my deductible $100. 00 :D

The paint job is twice as nice as the factory job and its shines perfect!

I got hit with the white road paint and it was like concrete

Oh well I am happy now...

Had the same problem on my 98 Black Dakota. Used mineral spirits work excellent. Paint had been on a little more than 2 hours.
