I had just read in the NRA magazine where Private Shooting Clubs in Mass. are not allowed to fire at any target depicting a human outline. ! (the standard silhouette target) I slammed down the magazine and went to the Forum. The 1st thing I read was about being Politically Correct ! Ted Kennedy, Jane Fonda and Bin Laden are Politically Correct I guess, but I despise all of them.

Please say your not talking about me when you say politically correct! If not ,excuse me, if so you couldnt be farther from the truth. Life Member of the NRA, 3rd generation, Hard Core Right Wing. But I have had to listen to too many cops talk about, brag about, laugh about how they don't have to follow the rules like the rest of us and no I'm just no great admirer of your average policeman. You may be the greatest guy around, I don't know, but I have little respect for your occupation. I obey the law, I'm not a nut, but thats my opinion. By the way your average cop would love to see me and the rest of America disarmed. This is not the place for this discussion so I will quit now, have a good weekend... JTMcC.

Your comments about the targets kind of makes me wonder whose pictures should be used for target practice! Hanoi Jane would make a good profile!(along side Bin Laden)



I could never be in law enforcement cause my temper would get the best of me. I see some of the crap that happens and I feel the police should be given the green light to stop some of these morons any way they need to. If somebody does something and then runs and is endangering the lives of others, then take em out! The bad guys know that they will not get hurt(most of the time) for doing something so what do they care? And if they do get caught, some lawyer with no morals will get them out cause its"his job". The founders of this country would roll over in their graves if they could see how twisted some of the interpretations are of the constitution.



I got off track a little here but my point is that not everyone thinks the Cops have a different set of rules. Some of us think the rules need to be changed a little to make the job easier to perform.

Good post Don. IMHO, the guy that opened the door got what he was looking for. It's one thing to approach another driver and discuss a road rage incident, it's entirely another subject when the aggressor opens your door in a fit of rage. If Don's friend had been meek when his door was opended, he probably would have been the recipent of the knuckle sandwich. Flame away if you wish, but if I was in the same situation I would have done the same thing. I know it's real easy to talk tough on the web, but I can honestly tell you, from 15+ years as a street cop, you know when you are in a situation that is going to turn violent and you are nothing but a fool to wait for your foe to throw the first blow. You can only talk so much, this guy obviuosly wasn't interested in talking, based on his actions.



As for cops getting preferential treatment, give me a break. We are Monday morning quarterbacked by every attorney that reads our reports, including those in the Prosecutors office. We have a few seconds to make life and death decisions most everyday. I've been sued countless times. Most every dirtbag that resists arrest charges the officer with simple or aggravted assault. We have a saying that states if you are green sheet free ( a term used to describe the color of the defendants copy of a complaint) you are not doing your job. If you get a DWI confiction against you, will you lose your job ? I will. If your wife files for a restraining order against you and it becomes finalized in Superior court, will you lose your job ? I will. If you get convicted of a disorderly persons offense, will you lose your job ? I will. Nuff said.

As far as you not respecting Cops, that's up to you. I doubt you know much about the profession. As a last note, I have never met a Cop that wanted guns taken from law abiding citizens. Many times an average armed citizen has saved an Officers bacon. JMO (no flame war intended)

I have nothing but respect for police officers. You guys and gals do a job I wouldn't want to do in a million years. BigSaint hit the nail on the head. Cops have a split second to make life and death desisions, how would you like that job every day? Not me my friend. I would much rather come to work and sit at my desk and play on the TDR all night. A friend of mine is a County officer here in Harrison county and I seen him brake a 3 cell maglite over a guys head one night because the guy stabbed him with a pocketknife in a bar fight he was breaking up. Yep busted the caps right off the end of the light, batteries went flying everywere. Dropped the guy like a sack of feed right there on the parking lot. A month later the guy sued him for aggrivated assault. If it would have been me I would have hit the guy on the head then shot to dumb SOB. Sorry but that ain't no job I would want to have, no way.

Yup! They sure do. And this is why. When an Officer is out there on the street or in the ghetto or in a dark alley, there is ONE person he can depend on to guard his back, save his life, and protect him. That ONE person is his partner. Cops, like soldiers in battle develop tremendous trust and bonding with other Cops. These guys do a heck of a job and my sympathy is with the Officers. God Bless them all, including DDR-24, Bigsaint, and any other LEP on this site.

TDDR-24, Bigsaint,Thanks for doing our dirty work for us. I think most law enforcement are for people being armed. Never know when it may save them. We once had a sheriff that told me if the government out lawed the citizens from having guns, he would make deputies out of all of us! He sued the Feds on the waiting period for purchasing handguns and they threw in the towel before court! When he appeared on Phil Donahue show, Phil threw him a curve and had Sarah Brady on the show also. The sheriff said it was so ironic that Sarah had two armed bodygaurds with her. Heres a funny for you. Once a deputy pulled me over and before long he was looking at my gun and I was looking at his. Could never happen in NYC.

R-Dogue, I think that sums it up pretty much, in my book. My friend is a sheriff up in Placerville. I rode with him one night, and ONLY one night! Saw both extremes and a little of the middle. Helped some nice people that had a car wreck-broken foot. Went to a loud party (twice), and when things quieted down, about 0300, found the night people crawling out from under rocks. Quite and eye opener. They have my respect.

I've also gone on ride alongs, and cops could make twice what they do, and still be under paid... ...

The old CB radio made them out to be the bad guys but less than 1 % are are.

Doubleclutch nailed it on the midnight tour. When I got out of the academy, I rode with a senior officer for 3 weeks ( no FTO program back then) and was thrown to the wolves on the 2300-0700 tour. What an eye opener. TR- Sat. nights were the worst, especially once the bars let out. I dealt with nothing but drunks and obnoxious people in general. After two long years, they moved me to the 0700-1500 tour. Talk about night and day, no pun intended. People were actually waving to me on patrol. I crossed school children. I did tax and bank escorts. Most everyone was friendly. Took my a long time to adjust for sure. Heck, I even caught myself driving with the headlamps on for the first few days .

I agree, it seems lately there is a 'newfound' gratitude for officers, firefighters, and military that was very quickly sliding towards the left prior to the Sep tragedy. I think it's a very rude wake up for some people while for others it just reaffirmed what they already knew. Thanks goes to the cops and firefighters.

I was a Cop from 1981-84 in Overland Park, Kansas. Our north district bordered on Kansas City Kansas and our south border was farm land. Different as night and day. I was on duty one night when a drunk kid was stopped by one of our female officers. He knocked her down and then ran over her killing her on the spot. He ended up being caught and was just a stupid scared kid that ruined a lot of lifes, including his own. One of the things that upset me the most about this tragedy was the fact that none of the female officers ever wanted a male officer to ride with them. They felt it made them look like they could not handle the job. That night I was riding with another male officer. If I would of been riding with her, she would still be alive. My point is that the Job is dangerous. Just like some jobs require special skills, I believe a Cop should be required to have certain size and strength and fighting skills, for his/her protection and the protection of the public. Just like I would not want to be unconscious in a burning building and have a 5'5" 130lb male/female fire fighter show up to carry me to safety. Cops have a very tough job and it is much harder today then it was 20 years ago. I for one think they deserve special consideration!!!

You are way out of line. It sounds like you got a ticket or arrested, and now have a problem with Law Enforcement.

I've been a cop for over 15 yrs. and come across people with your attitude all the time. You say you are not a nut, but you just admitted that you are a extreme right winger. In my opinion you just contradicted yourself IMO of course.
