Rocker Housing seal labor charge 2.3 hrs?

Hi Guys,



Ive been researching some threads on changing the rocker housing (rocker box) seal. In these 2007 threads it was noted that the labor for this simple job was 0. 8hrs My dealer and my local shop both want 2. 3 hrs. So what am I missing. Is it more complex than I think? I don't want to mess with the high pressure fuel system. Wires and bolts I am comfortable with. :-laf



Also, the Dodge prices are $118 for the valve cover seal and $34+ for the rocker housing seal. Can I buy them cheaper elsewhere? My local Napa store doesn't carry them.

You know you don't have to mess with the HP fuel system, right? Here's a link to one way of doing the job. I found it's best to have an assistant (parts are long and awkward).

Otherwise, I don't see how you can argue successfully against the shop charging the time. No matter what you say they're going to come back with some plausible excuse why they want 2. 3 hours for the job.

I cover the procedure and part numbers in the next issue of the TDR. The valve cover gasket will run around $60, and the rocker housing gasket about $12.

Ryan, Thanks for the link. I just looked at my rocker box yesterday and saw that it was starting to weep. I only have 44K miles

2. 3 hrs that must be form entrance to exit with 1 smoke and 2 cans of Red bull... Motor time 1. 3 hrs.

My local shop is seeing the 3rds. at about 4 years for leaking valve cover gaskets.

It took some time for me to do this. This was the first time going into the engine and I was a little nervous about it.



This you need to know...

1. Have paper near by so you can copy which color wire goes to what terminal on the injector.

2. The nuts on the injectors do not come off, so you don't have to worry about them falling in the engine.

3. Be careful with the wires, you don't want to damage or pinch these at all.

4. Take your time, no need to rush!!!!
