Can rod and main bearings be rolled out and in without dropping the crank? Used to do it on gas bangers, but not sure about the Cummins. (1990 12 Valve):)

There shouldn't be any problem. I personally wouldn't bother unless its very high mileage ( at least three or four hundred thousand) or there is some other reason for concern.

AMEN: nuf said for the durability of the mighty Cummins, the powerjoke and duradud can't even come close.

around here on a quiet night you can here CUMMINS THUNDER in the distant hills

Mains and rods

What is your oil pressure? I wouldn't touch them unless the oil pressure drops below 40PSI, Of course you will have to have a pressure gage that tells the truth. That gage in my 1990 lies to no end. My manul gage says 80 PSI on cold start ups and the gage in the dash is on the first mark, its still there on the first mark when the oil gets up to working temp at 55PSI. Bought a 1993 in Dec and both the dash gage and the elec one works close togeather. ;)

Agree about the lousy "oil guage", I'm going to install a real one. I checked with the Dealer for a new sending unit, $55, forget it! $19 at the parts house.
