There hasn't been much forum talk on this subj lately, so I'd like to start it again. I'm thinkin of simply replacing my stock muffler with this one, and would like any feedback from anybody else who's done the same. I'm particularly interested to hear about how many degress EGT was lowered (if any) while towing, and was there any drone while towing at approx 2000 rpm as well. Any comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I have the SM on my '06, there isn't any drone (cat's still there) driving solo and it has a nice deep sound. My son has the MBRP replacement on his '05 and I would say the SM sound is (quieter) between the MBRP and stock. Towing doesn't produce any drone either. As far as the EGT's are concerned, they came down but not dramatically. I noticed when towing the water temps seem to be more stable especially on mountain grades, so the heat is definitely getting out... ...

Thanks GW! If I understand correctly, this muffler can be mounted with either end toward the front. If this is true, what difference does mounting it either way make? Was their any trouble in getting the muffler to line up correctly when replacing it?

Steve

It can be mounted either way, but the instructions are very clear that there is one best way to mount it, depending on the year of your vehicle, so find out which way it should go. I love mine, but I put a new turbo on at the same time, so I can't give you any specifics on EGT reduction.

I mounted it with the holes at the rear (per their instructions) , it was pretty straight forward as far as the install was concerned. I saved the J hooks off the stock muffler and welded them on the SM so I could use the stock rubber isolators...

I have one, I think I turned Grey Wolf on to it after he heard mine. No drone at all, I just got back from a 520 mile drive towing a car and my buddy with a stock DM was commenting on how quiet it is inside. Hole in muffler to the rear, mine is an '06. I don't have gauges yet so can't help you there.

I have one and really like it. It seems to have helped with EGT which is what I was after. It seems to take longer to get the EGT to the upper limit. As far as the sound, it has a better sound-more beefy-no drone while towing.

I have the Aeroturbine 4040XL, it is really loud at low rpm's, at high RPM's it's pretty quiet, 75 mph at 2k rpms and it sounds close to stock, driving around in traffic from 1000 to 1500 rpm's it is loud and low, I think I scare people sometimes. My brother still has the stock exhaust on his 06 and it is nice and quiet at all RPM's, I want the stock sound with higher flow so I have considered losing the Aeroturbine and switching to the Rokktech, or maybe sticking them both inline. I sure wish I knew someone that had the silent might so I could hear it.

I know it's not as good as hearing it in person, but there are sound files on the Rokk Tech website from inside and outside the cab on acceleration.

I know there are a lot of factors that impact this, but can anybody say what an average decline in their EGT was while towing with the SM muffler? This, and the lack of drone while towing, will decide if I buy one.

I'd say my EGT has decreased by about 75 degrees, maybe more. I can still get it as hot as the stock muffler, but it takes longer. I can keep my foot in it using the available power longer. Keep in mind, that I tow at elevations over 10,000 feet regularly where the air is pretty thin.

I still have my cat in place, because I still wanted it quiet and not have to worry about replacing it someday.

I put mine in the 'quiet' position, holes forward and it is quiet as stock, sounds a LITTLE different between 1200-1600, maybe a small amount of extra growl, but sounds good. If someone had changed it in the dead of night and not told me I wouldn't have noticed it from a noise standpoint. What I did notice on my first drive was that the turbo spools up quicker and coasts down slower, so back pressure has to be a lot lower and it makes it nicer to drive around town as the turbo lag is minimized. Absoluely no drone anywhere, anytime. Can't comment on EGT as I don't have a gauge, but the comments on turbo response would indicate it would be lower. I like mine. I also have an extra Roktek timing adjuster if anyone needs one. $60 delivered.

crobertson1 - Nice pics on the SM install. Is there enough play in the setup that you did not need an "s" pipe of any type? You just got it to line up from the cat outlet straight shot to the stock tailpipe and then welded on some hangars at the right spots?
