How do I know what to look for on my new truck to see if the dealer put this roll over valve to prevent water from getting in my diesel tank?

How do I know what to look for on my new truck to see if the dealer put this roll over valve to prevent water from getting in my diesel tank?

Look for two little rubber hoses on the top of your fuel tank. They don't go anywhere and are still open. Its not much of a fix. Some are joining them and putting a fuel filter on the end of the line.

Climb under the truck, reach up on top of the fuel tank and see if there is hose attached to the right angle connection that is in the lower area. If you feel around and find a connection that doesn't have hose on it then it wasn't done. The truck I picked up a month ago wasn't done!

Under the truck about in line with the fill door, up over the frame on the tank. I feel a 90 degree something with a rubber hose out to the edge of the frame. Is that it?

That is it... I think there is two of them though. Check further back as well.

I just bought some 1/4 inch fuel line and two 1/4 fuel filters to mod my 04. 5 this week end.

I bought the fuel line and a single filter and a tee for mine...



Mine were dry... only the front one was located in a "pocket" that could capture water/crud... the other was on top of the tank...

There is one on the front and one on the rear of the tank. My front one does not vent if blowed into or sucked on, the rear one does vent on mine. I installed a 1/4 hose on front and rear barbs anyhow, tied them together with a T, then put a big fuel filter on and then put another hose on that and run it down into a hole on the frame and zip tied it into place. My hopes are with it in the hole on the frame the end of the hose does not get plugged with mud or snow like it would sticking out into the open air. Make sure the line is facing down no matter which way you do it. Less chance of water or crud getting into the hose that way.

I have heard to many horror stories of water and dirt getting in the tank and the only place that makes since for entry is through the two 1/4 inch vent holes on the top of the tank. I'm useing 1/4" barded fuel filters and fuel hose to run the vent up and out of harms way. Seems Dodge knows of the problem and is adding just a short piece of hose to the vents on the 06's but has left the 03,04,and 05 guys out in the weather. Even with the short hose fix there is still a 1/4" opening to suck grud through and into the tank.

I ran mine up and zip tied the filter to the fill hose... let the filter simply "droop down" so that it doesn't accumulate dirt... I used a very small lawn and garden tractor filter... more than sufficient for this application...

I used a clear/see through filter from wal-mart, the largest they had. That way I can see if the filter is getting crud into it and at least a better guess when to change it.
