I used to have a full size fiberglass shell on the back of my truck when I pulled a 26' TT. I recently sold it and ordered a new 5ver that I am waiting anxiously for. This however called for some modifications. (I love that part) After much looking around and surfing the net, I decided on a Roll Top Bed Cover from Pace Edwards. Other than the company I bought it from being bone headed (they will remain nameless), and a little weak in the instruction area, I love the results:D It rolls over the top of my 5ver hitch, and locks in the closed position, and at various positions along the way. I bought mine with the clamp on, no drill option for the side rails, and it is working great! When open it fits into a 8x8 inch canister in the front of the bed that suspends from the bed rails. Since the cover is vinyl over light weight aluminum, there is no sag, and water sheets off. And on top of that, my gas mileage has increased about 2 mpgOo. So far I love it, and can recommend it highly. I have pic's if anyone is interested. Sarge

Thanks for the info! I've got a shell, and noticed an mpg jump when it was off for a couple of weeks. I'd been wondering how much I might see in mpg if I switched from a shell to a cover permanently!

I like mine too!

I like mine too. I had it on my 00 2500 and transplanted it over to my new 02 3500. Mine screws on but I'm still happy with it. I had to modify it by intalling a door sweep at the opening to keep debris out of the box.

I have it for the same reason: keeps the weather out of the bed, works like a big trunk.

Pace Edwards RollTop

I've had one on my '98 since the truck was almost new. It's great for keeping things locked in the bed and keeping the hitch covered. Mine is starting to show it's age though. Looks like the vinyl covering is starting to pull loose from the aluminum slat structure at the forward right side. I'm open to ideas as to how to fix it.

Mike, did you try their customer service? When I called them for some advice they were extremely helpful. Try them, they might have an idea... .....

Any one try Retrax?

I am looking at roll tops for my newer truck. When I had a Line-x done I got to see a promotional cross section of a Roll n lock. I not too crazy about the vinyl over aluminum. I have run in 2 trucks with older(pre vinyl)R N L's on their trucks. I like the stong lock at the tailgate. But one said it froze in winter.

Has anyone seen a Retrax?

Its one piece of Lexan and a little more$$ than the others. I have only seen pics on the web and asked the maker a few questions. If anyone can help me on my choice thanks.

I just called for info on it. heard some bad things about pace, and I want a tool box also, there is a 3in diff. on dodge beds from front to back, thats where the pace has a problem.

How about wind noise with the roll top? A post a long time ago someone said the couldn't drive with the rear window open on theirs ... don't remember the mfg.

thanks

I haven't found the road noise to be bad on mine. During the summer, I run with my rear window open all the time.

That was me speaking of noise coming in through the open rear window. My cover has always rattled from the wind over the cab top hitting it. Used to keep my poor old beagle dog awake when she was riding in 'her' back seat with the slider open. I'm not sure the side rails have ever been adjusted right. Never notice it with the slider closed and Cummins singing. By the way wiredawg, I bought my cover from a place you may know, Trick Trucks in Lexington Park.

Mike,

Had my cover for almost 5 years now. The vinyl started coming loose on the driver's side. My solution to this was to remove the cover on the box and position the roll top just before it contacts the roller. I then drilled small pilot holes on each slat where the vinyl was coming off and screwed it down using small stainless steel screws. This was done about 6 months ago and is still holding just fine. Hope this helps.

MikeH:

I bought my rolltop from Trick Trucks in Waldorf. Small world. Mine has good fit, but it's weathering pretty bad. Looks good when Armoralled, but looks faded after it get wet.

All considered, I still like it.

Wiredawg

Wiredawg, how did you make the guard to keep debris out of the box?

Task125- don't worry about the bed being narrow at the back. The side rails compensate for the angle.
