I read some posts on here about the rollover valve on top of the fuel tank becoming bad and causing excess suction in the fuel tank, and as a result placing more stress on the transfer pump, which in turn exacerbates the infamous ticking sound. It was supposed to be a relatively inexpensive part, so I figured I would check at the dealer to see how much a new rollover valve cost. Well, according to the parts counter man, the rollover valve is part of the whole fuel module on the 98 and newer trucks, and the whole unit costs something upwards of $400. Figures.

So, my question is, have any of you been able to troubleshoot/repair the 98 and newer style rollover valves without replacing the whole fuel module? Thanks in advance.

See if your parts person can tell you what these are:
  • P/N 52127666
  • P/N 4002149
Don't buy a new module.

Yeah that's ruthless, they also want over a $140 for the 8" of rubber hose that connects the filler to the tank (made from an oddball or metric size that can't be purchased @ any auto parts store).

Mine was sticking a year or two back. I had to replace the fuel sender and while I was under the bed, I squirted some brake clean in the little hole and I haven't had any suction problems since. It just got some dirt/debris buildup, not worth replacing.

Thanks for the tips guys. I have occasional suction at the the filler cap when I remove it to fill up, so I figured it wasn't venting correctly.

TPCDrafting, did you have any issues with brake cleaner entering the fuel tank when you cleaned your rollover valve?
