I am looking for a stateside company who markets cab roof mounted lightbars ideally with emergency lights (flash or strobe) - but amber and red only. If the option of regular white lights (i. e. side directional spotlights) is also available, that would be a bonus. Any help, pointing in the right direction would be greatfully appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks very much!!!!One other question however... . in your sigfile there is a reference to ( I presume) strobes in turn signals... .

How does that work with the original amber turn signals back and front?

john... ..... whelen engineering has everything that you are looking for..... www.whelen.com however i do feel that tomar makes a superior product.

the hide-a-way strobes that you refer to are simply strobe tubes that are place into your turn (or headlight or tailight) housings thru a hole that you drill yourself and then wire to a separate power supply. these do NOT in any way interfere with your factory turn signals. i had these in my '97 1500 but i was NOT entirely happy with them.

hope this helps my friend, Tim

The strobes on my truck are Whelen. I bought the undercover kit. The bulbs are mounted in the t/s by drilling a 1" hole in the reflector housing. Because of the way I use my truck I have white to the front and amber to the rear. I also have the Traffic Director behind the cab. I really like the Whelen products. We use a lot of them on our fleet at work.

What is the legality of putting the strobes in your turn signals?? I know cops have them, but they have a reason... . I really don't have a reason other than it would be kind of cool to have... .

John, how is the lightbar going to work with your slide-in camper?

:D :D

Actually it is for a friend of mine who runs a veterinary ambulance service and it is for his vehicle and not my truck. He is allowed by the local police to use red and amber in emergency situations and needs a new light bar, but was having a hard time locating one to this spec in the UK, so I said I'd make some enquiries on his behalf through the TDR.

I have a Federal Streethawk lightbar on my truck that works very well. I was able to find one with clear takdowns (front facing lights) and alleys (side facing lights). It delivers plenty of flashes with the rotators that get everbody out of my way. They are fairly inexpensive as far as lightbars go, but not as bright as a strobe bar.

I've used several Whelen products and always consider them to be a leader in emergency light technology (not that I'm biased living in CT). At the last FDIC conference in Indianapolis, I came across lights made by 911. I contacted Ricky at www.emergencyvehicleequipment.com and purchased an AWESOME :D set of LED's. They're not cheap but they are definately the way to go. Good luck.
