Steering Wheel Lock-up?

Are there manual front hub kits available for these trucks?

Alright, I know this is a stupid question, but I gotta ask it. I have noticed that over the last few months, the shifter knob has began to rotate and has now done about a 270 deg clockwise turn. So now the numbers are facing sideways and not up and down. This has been gradually happening since I got it. What I dont understand is the fact that I am physically unable to move it myself because it is so tight, yet something is making it turn when I am driving it. It looks as if the entire stick assembly has rotated and not just the knob. Could this be? Has this happened to anyone else?

I remember there being some posts awhile ago about the little disc on top of the stick rotating around due to vibration. I think people were prying them off and then gluing them back down. If it were me I would probably try to pop it off with a flat head, and then stick it down with something less permanent like maybe clear nail polish.

the rotating can be cured in 2 ways. you can use some glue on the flange after you remove the pattern from the knob. or you can stuff some dense foam under the pattern, about 1/2" thick worked for me. A small standard screwdriver will pop out the pattern from the knob, just work it slowly.

I removed the shift pattern piece, put RTV in groove, replaced shift pattern piece wiped off excess. Has worked fine for 2k miles with no rotation. Hope this helps.

Once you get entirely feed up with that OEM knob, try one of these, makes for smooth shifts and a big rig feel.

OK, I Gotta Get One of Those

BigSaint,

Very cool indeed. I have been wondering if something like that would work. Instead of the two spped switch, what about using the built in thumb switch for the E-Brake? Or is that an air switch. Where did you get, and about how much?

pop the disk out and use some rtv silcone sealer and reinstall mine has not move in 5 months since i did that

Shelby, I purchased mine from Auto Wurks Diesel (973-226-7800), they sell a bunch of them. Price was around $85. 00. It looks like it would be a bit of a task enabling the two switches on the knob to be functional, as they were intended to be used as an air switch. It really does make shifting even more pleasant, no lie. The knob sits higher and just feels right. It's not a direct swap, they re-tapped a brass fitting for the knob, I'm not sure on the thread size but could find out if you need that info.

Maybe this is why I can get it in gear. I follow the shift pattern but it just won't go!

I have had the truck now for 1 month and I am at 3/4 of a lap. Glad to seem I'm not the only one.

Great list!

If you want to get real when you pop the numbers off Dodge has replacement patterns that read 1-2-3-4-5-R instead of that L-O business. Makes it easier to teach someone else to drive it. Only $4.

Bill, only if they have a 5 speed, LOL. Can you imagine putting the 1-2-3-4-5-R insert on a 6 speed. Sure would confuse the unsuspecting :D

Shelby

Good point Shelby, I forgot all about the those new fangled 6 speeds. I'm sure you can get new patterns for them also. How are the 6 speeds labeled stock, is Dodge still useing the L&O nonsense?

I have had my truck a year last month with out the disc moving. My wife took my truck for a short trip last weekend without me. When she got back the disc was spun half way around.

Six Speeds are properly marked

Bill,

The Six Speeds have 1-6 and R, just like they should. Reverse is up and away. I think the 5 speeds have reverse down and away, I don't remember, but I know that is the way my car is. So switching emblems on the manuals could be kind of fun. :D

The one in my International truck looks like the one in Bigsaint's picture but without the switches. It has a nice glass cover over the pattern which is one through 6... but it has R and L to the left and the 1-6 pattern the rest of the way. But its big enough you could have a sticker made to go under the glass... assuming it comes apart. I don't even know how it comes off lol. Going by how the rest of the truck is I am surprised its not fallen off yet. Might check with your Locan INT dealer... the new body style trucks have leather ones

PS my INT is a 4700 Series

I have to say, that Eaton Fuller is my favorite non-powertrain mod that I have added so far, it's just the right height for me and the feel is perfect.

Scott W.

Size of Eaton Fuller Logo?

Bigsaint or Bad340fish,

I got a question. More scheming going on in the brain here. I was wondering if the rams head logo on the grill would be small enough to retrofit to the top of that shifter? I haven't looked at one in the flesh, but was wondering what your thoughts are on transplanting the Ram logo where the Eaton-Fuller one currently resides?

Shelby

Shelby, cool idea, I just went out and checked for ya, looks like a no go without major die grinding to the Ram's head. The EF emblem is approx. 1 5/8" (at the top of the emblem) by 2 1/8". If you check the Ram emblem, you'll see that it's considerably larger.

There is lots of Dodge cars out there though. You might have to go to a dealer and kick off salesman while you walk around all the cars and vans with a tapemeasure lol. I think the dodge badge has the ramshead on all the vehicles. . could be wrong on that one though.
