Just a thought?
A good friend of mine has a 99 Ferd super duty, 7. 3 power stroke, it had 445,000 miles on it when the motor cracked a piston. His motor was pumping out pretty good hp most of its life, it has injectors, computer, hypermax turbo, etc. When we tore the motor down to see what was wrong with it, we inspected the bearings, they looked to be in excellent shape, we also noticed that there was still some cross hatching marks in the cylinders. All of this motors life it has has Shell Rotella 15-40 dino oil. He usually changed the oil when needed but on some of the oil changes it was over 10,000 miles.
So my thought on this is the synthetic worth the extra cost. I am sure that the 15-40 rotella oil is a great oil, if it wasn't I don't think that you would see it in every truck stop, and all the truckers wouldn't run it if it wasn't.
Just me thinking out loud?
