Is there anyone out there that has used or has an opinion about the Rotella Synthetic? I have a stock '01 QC that I will be pulling a 16' enclosed trailer with mowers in it this spring and summer and with 60,000 (I know not even broken in yet) I thought this might be a good switch. My Battalion Chief switched to it in his GM 6. 5 (he also owns a '03 3500 ctd) and said it started the other morning like it does in the summer. It has been a little cold here recently and his 6. 5 is cold natured. I was raised on Rotella and use 15W40 now and have not had a lick of trouble but I'm also thinking of adding an Edge Ez for the towing aspects to try and get the best performance I can. Any thoughts on my ramblings would be appreciated. :--)

I use it in the winter months, it makes start-up alot smoother. The oil samples I've taken with it have all come back good. I buy it at Walmart for $12. 80 a gallon.

I switched to 5-40 rotella synthetic a few weeks ago after looking at the 15-40rotella on the dipstick one 5 deg morning with truck plugged in 3 hours. The 15-40 was like glue and took to long to come up to pressure in winter at start. Now it starts real easy and comes up to 42psi quick. I am glad I made the switch.

I use it in both trucks

I use it in both my trucks. Shell says improved service and replaces standard 15W-40 oils.

My Battalion is switching to it on his next change and only has 10,000 on his '03 3500. He has a friend that is a Mercedes certified tech and has been for years he said his customers are more than satified with it. Just . 02 worth.

synthetics

My 04 Harley came from the factory with synthetic oil. I always heard that a motor should be run 5 to 10 thousand miles before using syn oil. So I got on the computor and sent an e-mail to Mobil and asked about using syn oil in new vehicles. They sent a reply that Mobil 1 could be used right from the factory.

My truck still has regular Rotela T in it but I plan to switch to syn the next change.

I personally dont like Rotella T that much (PSD's burn it up too fast) But I do run Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, I am considering changing to Mobil Delvac 1 which is syn. but it is sooo expensive I dont know if it would be cheaper just to have to rebuild more often?

On Feb 5th, I switched my '03 over to Rotella synthetic.

It just turned 22,000 miles. I figure shes' broke in.

Cold starts are much nicer now.

It's only a group III oil... so yes it can be called synthetic but it's still made from petroleum basestocks. If you're spending the money for synthetics and wish to take advantage of what they offer, get a good PAO group 4 and extend drain intervals with analysis, otherwise stick with dino oils... . they've held up this long for a lot of people.
