Short background info:
A guy ran a red light when I was turning left, slammed into the rear axle. When I dropped it off at the body shop, I told them there was a new vibration around 32 mph and again at 64ish. When the truck was returned with a new tire and wheel, new dually fender, and an "axle inspection" at the dealer, I noticed the vibration was still there. To make a long story short, when I took it back to them, they replaced the rear u-joint, but the vibration is still there. They also claim one of the injectors stopped working and the truck was shaking at idle. When I picked it up, the mysterious shake was not present.
I took it back one more time for the vibration and they informed me that the dealer and they agreed that they couldn't accurately diagnose anything until I got the injectors fixed... ( I have not noticed anything wrong with the injectors, mind you)

So, last week I took it to an independant shop that was recommended and seems to have afair amount of diesel traffic. The head diesel tech was surprised just how much the shifter was shaking at idle and told me it might be running on 4 and a half or even 5 cylinders. It didn't sound like it to me, but I asked the to do a cylinder contribution test anyway.

All cylinders were 98-100%. They even manually (with their scan tool) turned off each injector and watched the engine load, and they all had the same effect. There was however, a check engine light now. P0606: Internal ECM Processor. They cleared the code and re-ran the contribution test to see if that caused it, but to no avail.

The shop also told me I'm a little bit over full on the oil, which could indicate injector issues, but could be unrelated. I'm not the greatest at checking fluid levels, so I couldn't tell you the trend...

Seperate but possible related issue: If I turn the key on, but not start the truck, the check engine light is on. After 30 seconds or so, it blinks, and then goes solid again. I have a code reader, but it listed no codes. I've also done the key cycle, a couple of different times, and no codes listed, just -done-.

So, time for the question:
Can manually killing each injector cause that code? What could cause that code to only come in then, and not come back? What is causing the rough idle?

Signed,
Confused in Bremerton. :D

I think the axle would bend first but did they check the inside of the differential case to see if any damage was done? Is it shaking all the time or at certain speeds?
Could frame have been bent a little? Guess I should of asked how hard did you get hit first?

A1/2 ton van hit me about 20?
The vibration only happens in a certain speed range, and no one has opened the axle yet.

An alignment was done with the comment, "Aftermarket rack and pinion is worn, can't center wheel, truck has severe pull to right. "

So, needless to say, this dealership has been less than helpful, but I believe most of the problems have been the particular body shop being the go-between.

I've been seriously considering the flywheel. I've got a take-out that only has 30,000 on it. I'd like to put a South Bend in it, but this dealer would say they can't find the vibration because of the solid flywheel...

I'll be heading out of the area for a a couple of weeks for work, so I'm going to leave the truck with the dealer and tell them to fix the problem they found, and not to start anything unless they know the warranty is going to cover it.

An o6 would be out of warranty unless you bought a service contract that is still in effect.Doing a contribution test can trip a code

I did buy an extended warranty when I bought it.
The guy re-ran the contribution test and the code did not come in. I'm pretty well settled on the computer not being bad, just from looking around and seeing that they don't fail. There is still the question of why the engine is "shaking so much", and that is what the dealer is going to be looking at, as well as replacing the rack and pinion.
My extended warranty is up in July, so I'm trying to get all of the problems resolved before then.

This is probably hard to believe but..........my 2004.5 had a vibration setting at idle in neutral. THis past month I did some preventive maint. before my trip from Az. to Alaska. After replacing the belt tensioner the vibration stopped. The gear shifter is quiet. I am now back in Alaska and it is still quiet. Just my experience.

So, while the dealer had it, they replaced both lower ball-joints, tie rod ends, and the rack and pinion. The shake that felt like it was from the rear is gone. I guess I'll chalk it up to death wobble on a 2WD.
As soon as I'm done with my friend's trailer, I will drop it back off to have the injectors pulled and tested. Hopefully I can get the engine shake fixed then.

Finding a capable Dodge (Ram, whatever) dealer in this area is tough. Monroe has lousy techs, Totem Lake doesn't seem to do an HD trucks and after that it would be a looong drive.
Not sure what I'm going to do in the future when I need a new trk.

Since the warranty was bought at the dealer, I'm supposed to take it to the dealer if they are within 50 miles. The diesel tech seems to have a clue at least. I've dealt with them enough that I know who to talk to when things don't go right. Also, the parts guy calls me if there is an issue that he sees.
