Rough ride

I have a 2006 3500 dually. The ride is bone jarring, both empty as well as loaded. I run 60 lbs in all the tires and have installed air lift bags, but nothing I do seems to help the ride. My wife says it is to rough for her to ride in any more. (some would say that is a good thing). Has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it.

I had the same complaints/threats from my wife after installing Air Lift air bags. I took them off and installed Timbrens. The Timbrens have about an inch of clearance between them and the axle which improved the empty ride. An 80-lb bag of sand at the rear of the bed makes a world of difference too.



It's a PIA to do, but will help the empty ride if the rear tires are adjusted down to about 40-45-PSI. I don't air down my rear tires, but have Rancho adjustable shocks on the rear. I set them on "2" when running empty and "9" when loaded. Adjusting the shocks is much easier than changing the rear dually tire air pressures.

Try running empty tire pressures that are on your door sticker when your not loaded. When I run my truck empty I run 60 front and 45 rear as per door sticker. Air bags at 5 psi. Rides well. When loaded, I don't know what to tell you. My truck rides better loaded.

Ditto on the tire pressure. I going to bet the air bags are your problem, reduce the air pressure til you get the ride you like. I tow a 06 Heartland Mt. Rushmore, I don't use air bags, and still have a comfortable ride. Remember, you don't need the air bags, so if you use them, you don't need them at max air pressure. By over inflating them, your springs on the truck are doing less work, while the air bags are taking on the load. An over inflated air ride is like having a block between the axle and the frame.
