I ran a search on Royal Purple ATF and ended up with a lot of oil wars talking about motor oil:)

I am looking for anyone that has run Royal Purple MaxATF in their transmission with good results. Monday I will take my truck (47RE) in to have the bands adjusted and the fluid flushed. The shop says they use the Dexron/Mercon V fluid that they call compatible with the Chrysler transmission. I am now out of warranty so I am not concerned with ATF+4 unless it is simply a superior product. I fully understand that I would HAVE to use ATF+3/+4 if my vehicle was under warranty to maintain the warranty.

I have a 5-gallon pail of RP MaxATF in my garage that I bought to use in my '04 Impala. At the time, I planned on buying a new 3rd gen so I thought there was no way I could use it in my truck. Now that I have an out-of-warranty 2nd gen I'd love to put it to use in the truck if it won't cause performance issues. It sounds like the DTT guys put Dexron in their rigs (from previous posts).

Feedback from those who have experience with this fluid in their transmission or know people who have used it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Using synthetic only increases operating cost's. I used the dextron III in my stock 99 47RE for over 80K pulling over 5 ton loads and never had a problem. The ATF+4 is an awesome product and is reasonable as far as costs go.

No Flame suits required.

I run Dextron III in mine. The big reason for me to go to RP would be that it is more resistant to thermal breakdown (hmm, sounds like a commerical... ). I'm not sure in a stock trans how it would work, but I was told by DTT that in my trans it would work fine.

paulb,

Wow, yes our trucks are like night and day! I appreciate your feedback. I think I'm going to let the shop put "normal" Dex III/Mercon V in this fill. When I go to a big pan with a transmission temp sensor I will probably put RP in based on my experience with conventional Dex III.

Thanks again!

If it still a stock trans, I would stick with the ATF +4 (or try the RP). With stock pressures you will probably get some shudder if you use Dexron III.

What about this same thread only talking about the manual trans. NV5600? My truck shifts a bit hard at times... ...

Ive had RP synchromax in my NV5600 last 5000 miles and noticed a significant improvement right away That has continued till now. no problems, smoother shifting.

going to use Amsoil in the engine soon as I finish break in some more... No brand loyalties If something gives me a problem I'll post it... so far great,. . fingers crossed. .

My local Pep Boys stocks the 5W-30 and 10W-30 motor oil that I use in our 97' Jeep Cherokee and '04 Chevy Impala, but I had to order the 5-gallon pail of MaxATF from a local performance shop. That was mostly to avoid shipping... the website Texas Diesel posted looks like a great place to get it. JC Whitney also sells a few of the products.

I'm a little confused... I paid over $35 for 2 gallons of ATF+4 and I've never paid that much for Dexron III/Mercon. DC has us by the short curlies since they won't release the patented formula for the new ATF+4. I'd love to use something I can buy at the local auto parts store for much less than that.

What's the biggest difference in these to AT Fluids?

So I went to the website that TD suggested and bought up the 5 qts I will need to change the trans fluids... ... much thanks baron
