You shouldn't have a problem with royal purple as long as it is ci-4/ci-4 plus. To the best of my understanding, back when i did the research, Royal Purple, Red Line, and Amsoil are the only three that sell a synthetic 15w-40. I went with Amsoil at the time because Amsoil made it cheaper and easier, at the time, to order it (I hate having to drive around looking for a specific brand of oil). But, now that Napa started selling it in my home town, I may have to try it.

Just read online about it, but I didn't see a rating. It is 15/40 yes, but is it CI4?? It also says to wait until 8-10,000 miles before using it...

It is a good rule of thumb that if you have a brand new truck, to go in the neighborhood of 15000 miles (depending on driving circumstance, of course) on conventional oil before going to synthetic.

I've used RP for the last 40,000 mi. in engine, trans. ,diff. Someone seemingly well informed claimed it is one of cleanest and slipperiest oils.

I just sent a new/unused sample of Royal Purple 15W40 oil off to Blackstone Labs. I paid the extra ten bucks for a TBN. I will post the numbers on this thread when the email report arrives on Tuesday or Wednesday (4th or 5th).

bet you all will be very pleased with the results too...

for drag racing there is not a better oil out there

i would think rp put the same effort into a diesel oil

OK Guys and Gals, as promised here are the numbers for Royal Purple 15W40 oil.

Blackstone Labs report 44/26118/286 (in case anyone wants to verify).

Aluminum - 1
Molybdenum - 82
Boron - 2
Silicon - 3
Sodium - 2
Calcium - 2266
Magnesium - 8
Phosphorus - 754
Zinc - 899
TBN - 11. 9

My comments: I believe that the above numbers would place this oil in the “Good” category as outlined in TDR Issue 57. The TBN number is right up there in “Best,”
but nearly everything else falls into the range of additives found in the oils characterized as “Good. ”

It looks like I am going to stay with Delo 400, at least as long as they remain CI-4+ instead of CJ-4.
