Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Royal Purple Longrider

I did a little foot work after posting last week that I used Royal Purple Longrider 15w-40 in my 2001 HO.



After contacting Thomas Herrmann, president of Royal Purple Longrider.

My concerns were addressed as follows.

1) yes our engines need SG,SH or better



2)Royal Purple Longrider is not API Certified SG or SH, but is SJ approved and has always met this spec.



3)The reason for this is, the oil is specifically designed for Heavy Duty Diesel Engines. Other than the Cummins B and C Series engines, the certification wasn't necessary.



The oil will soon be labeled CI/SJ per Tom @ Royal Purple.



I asked him what they did to the oil to get the new certification, and his reponse was that it is the same formula that it has been for some time now. Nothing was changed... .



Anyway I am happy to know this info and pass it on to you.

Does that mean it will carry the API Certified "Donut" or does it just meet and exceed these specs the way Amsoil does?



Not to get picky or start an oil war, I'm just wanting some information

It is good of you to dig up and pass this information along. Royal Purple Lubricants are fine products. It is good to have another choice in fine quality synthetic lubricants now that the truth is known about LongRider. Thanks.

I like Royal Purple Oil myself, I have it in everything but the engine. (6000mi) I'd like to know what the difference between the Longrider and the Royal Purple 15w-40. The Longrider I see at Flying J in Gallon jugs, the Royal Purple I can buy at Napa in quart bottles. Longrider doesn't even show up in RPs catalog. Anyone know what the difference is?

RP Longrider 15w-40 is formulated to meet / exceed API CH-4 / SJ specs although it is only licensed as an CH-4 oil. This was done for marketing purposes as this product is targetted to the over- the-road 18 wheeler market, not our B series.

Does anyone have the capacities for the NV5600,Dana 60 & 80, and the transfer case.
