Just had my transmission, transfer case, front and rear end changed out to Synchromax. Anyone else running it and what how has it held up?? Did you add any thing to the rear for the limited slip?? I pull a 14k gooseneck on a regular basis. Called RP and they said no additive needed and I could use it front to back in my 2003. How about RP in the Cummins?? Currently using Amsoil... I know a million different opinions on that one but would love to hear them... I live in South Texas where it stays fairly hott year round and also have a heavy foot and usually like to take it to top speed on a regular basis. Hope that helps out some. . thanks

You put Max-Gear in the read end right? Not Synchromax? Synchromax is not a gear oil and if installed in the rear end it should be removed ASAP.

Max-Gear is suppoesed to have the friction modifiers in it for LSD's, but I think the 03's have a different type of LSD that may not even require an additive.

Yes I put Synchromax in the rear end, guy that put it in called there tech line and they Okd it. Guess it is not supposed to be used there?? please let me know. its been in for about a month now.

You could call the tech line and get the skinny, but I'm guessing they will tell you to drain it.

Personally I would swap it out ASAP.

I have synchromax in my transmission and transfer case... . but not the rear end. I use 75-140 amsoil in the front and rear axles. The synchromax does not have near the weight gear lube should, it's very much like 5-30 engine oil.

I would highly suggest getting on the horn and verifying everything.

BTW my transmission and transfer have run like a champ for about 15k on the synchromax now. Though my transmission has developed a slight leak since...

OK got the rear end changed out to RP gear lube thanks for the help. Glad I caught it before it was too late...

It's probably too late, but if it were me I would want to send a sample of the oil (syncromax) from the differential out to get tested and then when it came back with high wear metals in it that shop would be buying me a new differential. How many miles did you drive over the last month with that in it?

Turbo Tim 1 has a good point but unfortunately it is probably too late for that now.

Unless you did some heavy towing in the last month, I don't think I would be too worried about any harm done.

Ok changed it out myself synchromax looked and smeld like new. Pulled the cover off and no metal shavings or debris found at all. No heavy towing done at all. I think i put around 1000 --1500 miles on it with it in the rear end. . Seems to be running smooth never had any funny noises or clanks so I think I am ok... Did get my Edge EZ put in. . Darn should have done that a few months ago. . on level 3 right now will try 4 in the morning I guess. .

I know this is an apples to oranges comparison but you should be OK based on some past experiences of mine. Back when I worked for a living I worked on forklifts and we had a model that would leak trans oil into the differential. The correct fix was a complete disassembly of the trans to replace the seal. An expensive job for an otherwise functional transmission. We would drain both the differential and transmission and refill both with 10W-30 engine oil and they would work fine like that. Hope this helps.

mmeyn, i wouldn't worry. If it breaks it breaks. Wait until then to replace it. I've done some cooky stuff to vehicles before and seeing how some of my neighbors take care (or lakc there of) of their cars has shown me how much a beating some stuff can take.

I once packed a worn out front wheel bearing on an old ford truck with bacon... that's right bacon. It had seized and the front axle was hurtin. I crammed a half pound of bacon in the front hub housing and made it home. In fact, i ran it for 3 days before i changed anything out with new parts. Needless to say i was amazed.

You axle was atleast getting lubed, may have ran into some premature wear, but i think you'll be ok.

It was an honest mistake, don't fret it, and certainly don't go blow 2 grand on a new axle if it still works.

I think at worse case you'll see some premature bearing fatigue, and perhaps will have a failure a little sooner than most.

Was that bacon API certified? I would only run bacon that has been API certified in my hubs. Could bacon wars be as much fun as the oil wars? Due to my use of synthetic lubricants I now fear that my first born will in fact be naked.
