Has anyone ever used this in the drive train or in the engine was thinking about it and wanted some input on this good or bad I have been running delo 400 have been pleased so far I was realy thinking about it in the drive train.

Thanks for info.

I've been using the RP Longrider 15-40 (Longrider Ultratec Synthetic Oil by Royal Purple) in my 95 for about 7yrs and close to 100,000 miles. When I first started using it I sent out samples to Cummins every 5000, 10000 & 15000 miles. I changed my filter at that interval and dumped at 15000. Everything came back OK and said to continue using it. I still send out a sample but now only at 10000. So far no probs. Don't use it in my diffs.

i have rp in my nv4500 and it slicked it out nicely i can shift as fast as i want with no crunchys where it would crunch a little with whatever was in it when i got the truck

RP is made out of the same top-shelf base stocks that Amsoil & Mobil use, so I say it's great stuff. The only thing I caution is using their lube that's recommended for the NV5600 trans since it's thinner than the stock stuff and a couple members had bad results with it (fried the lube). Others running it in their NV5600 have done fine with it.

Synthetics are great for the drivetrain, however, with many getting 600k+ out of our cummins, I just't can't see spending that kind of money. The axle fluid is no expense becuase most leave it in there 100k+. I used synthetic axle fluid in my car and noticed a slight gain in only city fuel economy due to it being thinner when cold. It may be worth your while for your axle it you have extreme temps, or if you tow.

RP makes great stuff.

Allan, I've used RP in several cars, aircooled, gas, diesel, boat motors, lawn mowers, you name it. Never had an issue with any of those engines although the aircooled (porsche) leaked a little more than normal. If you don't mind the cost, it's dang good oil. Our 03 4x4 has it in every last orifice I can pour it into including both diffs and transmission (auto). It helped with trade-in values with several vehicles, one I kept track of - last reported mileage was 238,000 with no engine or transmission issues.

I notice better mileage, easier starts and quieter engine, but I think most synthetic oil will do the same. I appreciate the piece of mind knowing that the moving parts are protected by the best, but the price of a case is steep. Probably other oil out there that protects as well under normal use but costs less, Royal Purple has never let me down so I keep paying the price.

Been in the transmission and rear end since new with no problems. Soon as I get things in order it will go into the engine.

Royal Purple is a fine product, but I can not help but wonder why not use Cummins Premium Blue Extreme (PBE)? It is cost-competitive with Amsoil's comparable product and is (presumably) provided with an additive package that is directly-targeted at the Cummins engines... I am not being negative or argumentative, just curious... I do use PBE, and Stratapore lube oil filter.

I have seen Premium Blue Extreme (PBE) in some auto parts stores... I think NAPA stores have it... and Cummins locations do, for sure... it is produced by Valvoline and is edorsed by Cummins for extended drain intervals... last cases I bought were about $19 pergallon... I personally see no motivation to use anything but the real-thing from Cummins. Others are welcome to their choices in selection of oils... (I am not wanting to start a religious war)

Been using RP 15-40 in the motor for two years.

Since the last couple issues of the TDR has pointed out how good the Rotella T CI-4 Plus syn is as far as the TBN and Calcium I think I might be switching.

Plus Wally's has it cheap.

The TDR had no mention of RP at all what gives .

Mac:cool:

Everyone is free to select their own lube oil... but, I will continue to use PBE *exclusively* as I don't have an urge to play chemical roulette :) just my humble opinion...

Cummins approves it because Cummins places their logo on it :)

Waltk,

At what mileage interval do you change your Cummins PBE? I have 52,000 on my 2002 dually and have always used Delo 400, with regular oil changes every 3500-4500 miles. I would use a superior product if it would lenghten the interval between oil changes.

Any body have any thoughts on this subject? Thanks!

THoltz, I waited 10,000 before switching (it was Premium Blue 2000, PB2K, then, PBE superseded PB2K a few years ago). Anyway, I based my 10,000 miles on a presentation by Mr Don Carver (Cummins lube systems engineer) at the first TDR Nationals, as well as his article in TDR #2, pg 22 "Oil: Your Engine's Lifeblood". Based upon those sources, I hold the opinion that Cummins is inarguably-competent to know how lube oil additive packages must be blended to serve in engines of their design. Anyway, I also use Stratapore filter and I change at 5,000 mile intervals due to a very severe service schedule (short drive to/from work) and frozen-north climate. I used to change my non-synthetic (Premium Blue) at 2500 mile intervals for same severe service reasons.
