after cruising down the road when i push in the clutch and just about have come to a stop i get and rpm flare goes from idle rpm to almost 1000 and settles back down... anyone have any suggestions... lift pump, ez, tst box, i dont know where to start

I had the problem that when I pushed in the clutch the idle would stick at about 1000 to 1050 and stay there. The problem was in the wiring harness connectors to the ECM. I've been told that this was a problem in some early 03s. Also had erratic fan operation and a door lock problem all related to the same thing. Got a repair kit installed yesterday and it is fixed. . I would suggest disconnecting the boxes and if you still have the problem it may be the same as mine.

The fuel is cut off while coasting, and it comes back on at 950, to prevent stalling. If you slow down in gear, you'll feel the engine swithching back on at 950. If you lug it down to below idle speed, it adds a lot of fuel to try and maintain idle (you are lugging it, and it makes a scratchy sound too), and when you press in the clutch, it will flare until it returns to normal idle fueling.

If you press the clutch while you're still above 950 rpm (which I suggest you do), it should first return to 850, and as you come to a complete stop, it returns to 750.

If you let go of throttle after high boost acceleration, it will continue fueling for about 2-3 seconds, to prevent turbo bark.

If the flare occurs only after cruise control, there was a mandatory recall for early 03's on this.
