I TOOK A THREE DAY TRIP TO MAINE, PUT ON 600 MILES, AND WHEN I RETURNED, MY RPM WAS AT 1000 RPM. I USED UP A HALF A CAN OF WD-40,AND WHAT WAS LEFT OF A CAN OF TRI-FLON, NO PLACE TO WORK OUTSIDE IN THE RAIN, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE A RETURN SPRING PROBLEM. ANY ONE ELSE HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM- MY 95 EXT. CAB 2500 STD HAS 117K ORIGINAL EVERYTHING BUT FILTERS AND OIL PRESS SWITCH.

:) This may not help, but there is tsb on the linkage to the injector pump if it has a manual trans. The stealer should be able to help you find it. I'm not at work or I could find it on shop-key. Fred
 
Your truck should have a recall that replaces

Ball studs and sockets for a binding condition and also replaces the throttle cable that may fray. There is also a new return spring included.
 
rpm too high at idle

I SWALLOWED MY PRIDE,AND TOOK A TRIP TO CUMMINS NORTH, LOCATED IN DEDHAM, MA. THE GUYS THERE HAVE NO IDEA TDR EXISTS, SO WE JAWED FOR A WHILE, AND THE ONLY INFO I GOT THAT IS HELPFUL, IF YOU TAKE OFF THE THROTTLE CABLE AND YOU CAN BRING THE RPM DOWN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO REFINANCE THE HOUSE, THE INJECTOR PUMP IS NOT THE FAULT,AND THEY SUGGESTED TO GO TO HOME DEPOT, SPEND $1. 50 FOR A SPRING THAT CUMMINS GETS $15. 00 FOR!!!! I GOT THE THROTTLE DOWN TO ABOUT 850 RPM, AND I THINK I'M GOING TO GET A SPRING AT THE CAR PARTS STORE TOMORROW. BY THE WAY, I PUT THE 3500 REAR WHEEL CYLINDERS IN MY 2500, THE SHOES WERE ALMOST NEW (WITH 118K ON THE ORIGINAL SHOES, THE REARS NEVER MADE CONTACT!!!!! ) NOW THERE IS A MARKED DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU MAKE A STOP!! JUST LETTING YOU KNOW,BUT YOU MAY ALREADY KNOW.
