I have a '96 4X4 std cab 5spd with 379,000+ miles. Recently the RPMs have been dropping 500-600 in 3rd, 4th, & 5th while driving steady down the highway. There is no power loss, just the RPMs dropping off. Does anyone know what's happening and how to fix it? Thanks for the help in advance!!

I'm guessing there isn't a loss of speed? Check the wiring for the engine speed sensor that is mounted above the damper. http://www.genosgarage.com/product/sensor-3924432/electrical-sensors-2 It may be time for a replacement. There are two different connectors available, be sure to check that you order the correct one. More than likely, the one in the link is the correct one for a '96.

Sorry I haven't got back to you before now, but I had several mishaps since my post. I purchased the engine speed sensor from Genos and finally got it installed. I appears to have fix the problem. Thanks.
