Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) RPM Surge

I have a 99' 2500, auto, quad cab long box, completely stock Ram.

This morning the wife was sitting at a red light when she thought that she had been rear ended. When she looked at the gauges she saw the tac rev up to 1500 then back to normal which made the truck lurch forward. Soon after the check engine light came on.

The truck ran fine after approx 10 miles. No dealers open today so have not had the code read yet. Any Ideas?

My money is on the APPS/TPS Sensor. The auto's have some other wiring that can be the cause of this, but it's usually the sensor. You are lucky, you have the old version, so you can perform some surgery on it rather than replace it ($$$).
