This is one of the most reduculous quotes i've seen in a long time. Monotube and adjustable... . ranchos 9000 and MX-6 are both adjustable, AND all of the "cheap" shocks are monotube. (rancho 9000, procomp, bilstien 5100's, stock oem)

The only non-monotube are external bypass by bilstien, king, sway-away, and fox (these are the more popular and reliable race proven brands), $1000+ each. internal bypass/coil-overs by robby gordon are non mono tube also, but they're so new and rare they don't fit into this conversation.

Sorry to tell you but you are back*****ward bud...

You guys are crackin' me up... . Even more than the rs9000x box I just read... If you guy would read the package they came in you would read... "tri-tube design" :-laf :-laf

WTF is that???

IMO, the 9000 are a waste of $$$$... ... Just my opinion... .

Agreed. Save the money. Either buy the Bilstein 5100s, or something better.

If you can't afford the 5100s, just buy cheap OEM shocks from the local parts house-- they're all about the same.

Looks like the march-april, buy 3 get 1 free is rumored to be back on this year on the rancho 9000. Summit racing had the best price a couple years ago.

Mono tube, tri tube... look at the design and inside snap shot for you definitions. I still hold that rancho 9000, 5100 bilstiens, and mx6 are "mono" tube. 9000 and mx6 adjust compression and dampening with piston valve manipulation.

Heres a couple "multiple tube" high end shocks. Bilstiens are external multiple tube bypass. The Fox is a very NEW internal twin tube bypass. the Romic is a $500 mountain bike shock... . but hey i ***** backwards right.

****EDIT****

I stand corrected ranchos do have multiple tubes but still use valving to adjust compression and rebound.

I think I understand where you are coming from with the "multiple tube" comments but relating a tripple bypass shock to a double tube RS9000x is a strange was of trying to back pedal... . Totally different deals. What's being talked about is basically how many layers deep the shock piston is inside the outer shell of the shock. A monotube shock has the piston riding right inside the visible outer layer where a twin tube shock can be dented because the working piston is under the second, smaller diameter, shell. In actuallity a tripple bypass shock is a monotube.

A high pressure monotube shock has a HUGE advantage because the rebound dampening can be stiff since a MINIMUM of 150 psi is required to remove cavitation from the shock oil. Any twin tube shock has a thin outer shell, low gas pressure, and horrible valving because the gas pressure cant handle stiff springs/valving. Throw that in with a damn heavy truck and you have a problem. Thats why no cheap shocks have independent compression and rebound setting cause if it did, everyone would have light compression and stiff rebound which would work for about a mile before the shock fadded to nothing..... The double tube Fox shock posted above is sort of irrelevant also because it HAS to be used with another shock. It is designed to be dead mid travel so that another shock can handle the light workloads... ... annnnnyway..... I could ramble more but I though I'd continue later...
