Had to replace my rubber return line at 165,000 miles, about 1 1/2 years ago. Walked outside to the parking lot to get into my truck this afternoon, and I could smell fuel pretty strong. I looked under the truck, and sure enough there was a small drip from the transmission linkage bolt. The hose was cracked at the point where it connects to the steel line up top. You may want to check your line to make sure it is not in a bind at a 90" angle. Lucky for me I had a piece just sitting in the shop, so I just slapped another one on, I made the new about 4 inches longer than the old one to eliminate binds.

Sounds like the fuel line youre useing may not be holding up to the diesel fuel. I've had that happen before. I got the wrong stuff but the guy behind the counter assured me it was correct. Funny thing is, He was nowhere to be found when it started leaking again.

According to another post the return line is 5/16 and the supply line is 3/8. You need about two ft of each.

I need to know how you can determine if it is diesel fuel line, as opposed to gas line.

GAmes, I went to my local NAPA and had the parts guy check the specs on their hose. It was good for not only gas, but diesel also. I just did this fix this evening and found it not too bad. My truck is a '98 and the return line (rubber part) was only 9" long at the most. I removed my fuel filter and was able to do everything from the top. I was surprized to see that I didn't have a feed line that was rubber. It was metal to the fuel heater, then lift pump and then up to the main pump. I hadn't heard of this. I would have to assume that all of the later trucks were built this way. Hope this helps.

I changed both fuel line hoses last week. The diameters are 3/8 and 5/16. I went to the local boating store and bought marine grade diesel fuel hose. The walls on this hose is twice as thick as the OEM hose. Did the change at the same time as I changed out the fuel filter so that was not in my way.
