2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission rubbing noise when in motion

It's kind of a grinding noise. Maybe like a Brake shoe dropped. I have not pulled the rear wheels yet, but the parking brake works better then ever, and the noise sounds like its up front. I serviced the front axel, rear axel, transmission, and transfer case. all fluids are at their appropriate levels. You have to get to about 30 mph then it gets loud. loud enough that you can hear it over the cummins. I checked the driveshaft, u-joints feel tight, hanger feels tight. Any thought?

I would check the front wheel bearings and brake pads for loose or rough bearings and dragging or worn pads on the brakes first.

Try this: get her up on all fours = stands under each side of front & rear axle on solid level concrete. Get her going and search for the noise. Get someone to operate the go pedal and shift the trans for you. There are too many rotating things going on when going down the road to assess where the problem might be - this method helped me locate a drive-line vibration.



A note of interest - DO NOT APPLY cruise control when up on all fours. My helper did this and the engine almost went into runaway as there was no load and the cruise apply just floored the go pedal :--):-{}.
