Guys... ... . Is anyone reporting any "ruff clutch pedal feel" on 2004 4X4 6spds? Seems to be getting worse but is intermitent 15K miles on truck. Could be effected by water as problem is worse after driving through heavy rain conditions. Dealer has changed out the hyd master/slave unit but no improvement. Condition exists only when engine is running. Clutch reaease mech???????

Yes,

I have 20,000 on mine. The pedal started feeling like it was binding about a month ago. When pushed in all the way at a stop light, it releases in a jerky fashion when you let it out. It also "clicks" now when you push it all the way in. When I do my oil at 22,500 I am going to take it in.

Anybody else have this?

Juan

clutch pedal

took mine in for the same thing. the new clutch master, and slave assy. this one is worse than the orginal. last one inch of travel binds and clicks. something is binding for sure. they ordered another one , same part number, it goes in on friday, i will let you know if it is any better. i will not get my hopes up.

Me to! It is the only problem I've encountered with my truck in 23,000 miles. I disassembled the clutch linkage under the dash and lubed the heck out of it with anti-seze. Helped some, but it seems as if most of the jerky feel is where the push rod enters the slave cylinder. There's a snap ring that holds the plunger in, but I'm afraid to open it up for fear of not being able to reinstall it.

My truck does this as well. It seems to get worse as the miles climb. I have around 19K now.

Instead of a gradual onset my '03 began having the grainy notchy feeling in the clutch after one day in Vegas (115 degrees).

I think it's one of the built in features. Like slow passenger side electric windows.

Ours (OK, my wife's) does this too.

Briman, I too noticed it more in the heat. Just returned from a trip to the midwest and the weather happened to be very cool for summer. Clutch worked pretty nice.

Upon rolling into Tucson with about 100 degree weather, noticed it was releasing with that notchy feel and squeeky.

I did what HOCummins suggested a couple of months ago and it seemed to help a lot, but I still get the 'ruff' pedal and it seems to be at the rod/plunger in the slave cylinder itself. I too tried spraying a bunch of lube in there, but does not seem to work.

Thanks Guys,

It is going back to the dealer "one more time" to see if they can "get it right". Good to hear it doesn't seem to be the clutch release itself.

Will most likely have to fix it myself at some point.

hmmm Ive only got 1300 miles on my truck. . and Im hoping I dont have these problems... But I guess thats what the dealer is for.

My 03 3500 QC had the same problem and it went away on its own . . Now I have 46000 miles on it and I'm looking for a new clutch. . Mine is way gone now. . Any suggestions on a new clutch brand that will work and last longer. .

.

My 03 w/ 6400 miles does the same thing, very notchy and not smooth, and getting worse with time. It's the only complaint i have w/ the truck. I'm gonna take mine in soon and hope they can fix it w/out screwing something else up!

Hi Jack: It sounds like we have the same problem. I think there are two problems out there some are felt every time the clutch pedal is pushed in (engine running or not) then the way mine make noise is only when the engine is running and the RPM is around 2,000. Which is the normal shift point so it is really annoying. Mine has been this way since the truck was new and now has 14,000 miles and I think it is getting a little worse. It feels more like a vibration then anything else. You can be setting still in neutral and bring up the RPM to around 2,000 and push in the clutch pedal and about 1/2 through full pedal travel is when I get the noise/vibration. The dealer tryied his best to find the problem but has had no luck. They even went as far as to pull the transmission and clutch assembly. After inspecting everything they couldn't find anything wrong but did put in a new clutch disk and throw-out bearing since they had it all apart, but it made no difference. If you have any luck getting yours fixed let us know because it seems to be one of those problems that nobody can find the cure for

I had a similar issue with roughness in the clutch pedal. While putting gauges in the truck I noticed the clutch master cylinder was not locked into the firewall completely. Turned it until it locked into position, and its smooth now.

Jack: Have you found the problem with your rough clutch pedal yet. I still have mine. I was hoping you or your dealer might have found a fix for it by now.

hi Gary,

No joy on finding the problem... ... still there. Truck is not in daily service at the moment so the problem is not being acted on. There is a serious problem of some sort as the "poping" symptom is also coming back. Had the entire hyd system replaced late last summer, for the second time, and all was great for awhile. Seems to be getting worse again. Called the dealer to log the problem but have not dropped it by to let them work on it.

dealer replaced my clutch hydraulics and it cleared up the problem for about 10,000 miles. now its back.

I am not sure if we have the same problem or not because I don't think mine is in the hydraulic system. It only does it when the engine is running and at 2,000 RPM and up. It does it regardless of temperature or if I have driven it for a while or not. If I do find the source of the problem I will post it on TDR since you and others may have the same problem... ..... it's a weird one!

Took mine back to the dealer last evening. Factory guy there today?????? Will keep you posted. Think the roughness and the poping are related but not sure. Dealer has no clue... ... . replacing the hyd improves the situation for awhile but then it returns. Not that bad right now but heading 1000 miles into Mexico in June... ... . Don't want any problems down there.

To All,

Factory guru claims the problem is in the pedal and linkage not hyd. Makes some sense... ... going to replace the mech and bushings etc. parts on order..... about a week.
