Seeking Ram Body Work in Tennessee

Mid-Tenn Chapter Meeting Jan 29

URGENT!

Meeting is the 18th. The way I understand it is that we--the diesel truck guys--will propose our rules for classes and they'll adopt that--plus the safety rules that they want. I hope that will work.

They, MTPA have been discussing cutting classes and such. Also some of them ain't real happy about the attention Diesel Trucks are getting.

SO, I'd rather go in there with TWO classes--although we know that 3 would be more appropriate. The Ford guys like the DHRA rules. I haven't reviewed them yet.

I'd like for some very experienced pullers to chime in. I like uniformity as much as anybody, but I'm not sure that the lines are drawn that well--especially if you cut it to two classes.

Ford guys are worried about new guys coming in and taking advantage of simpleton rules. I'm not real worried about it. Besides, we can change everything for 2006 if we have real problems.

Here's my original rules idea--out of my pointy head:

#1 Street Diesel--ONE FUELING MOD. #7200

#2 Street Diesel Modified or "Hot SD"--MORE THAN ONE FUELING MOD #8000.

No limits on tires, bars, suspension for either class. Trucks must have current tags and insurance.

So, in class #1 a box/chip OR injectors and that's it. Give the regular guys a chance to run without being up against us smokers in #2.

I have seen no distinct superiority in two turbo trucks vs singles--at least around here.

I'm for no drugs too.

OR maybe we just go copy some over-developed rules.

I'm just guessing at weights.

Feedback?

street diesel #1 should be an 8000 # class. not that you need to weight up that heavy (read lots of broken parts) but some people use there trucks and toolboxes and fuel tanks can take a truck and make it pretty heavy. the 1tons that pull with us down here weigh around 9700 #. one fueling mod is extremely hard to tech. you can't tell (dodge) if they have injectors in them. if they have a box and 120 hp injectors. that is just hard to tech. dhra street rules are pretty good. but they are pretty open to. 1 fueling enhancement a dmax will kick *** everytime. i promise. just my 2 cents worth. nick

Good GAWD! , I just downloaded the PDF of the DHRA rules--I'm too tired to read/digest all of that tonight. Looks like the 100-page manual for SCCA racing.

I guess that'll be our springboard. Take them and mod 'em as necessary--like the weight thing.

I think that'll fly.

I was hoping to keep things from getting that complicated all at once. IF we get in, this will be our first year of "sanctioned" pulling in these here parts.

I don't expect a floodgate of new guys--but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the input Nick.

Mike's truck is just FAT! ;)

Well, I don't want the regular cab guys to run off every time a four-door, three toolbox and fueltanked truck shows up either.

So we'll argue the weight breakdowns. It suits me to let the heavy trucks run the little class, and make the hot class a medium-weight deal. I've only got so much lead. :-laf

let me tell you something funny. at the beginning of the year mike and i weighed our trucks. mine weighed 7200 # empty. his weighed 6500 # empty. looks can be deceiving. if you advertise your pulling schedule, payouts and rules here and on diesel-central you never know who may show up to one for a test and tune. like i said earlier. let us know when they are and we'll try to make it over at least once this year.

I hate rules!

have a street class.

Have a pulling class. 8000#, Diesel fuel only, 26" hitch.

Pulling trucks are easy to spot.

Well, so much for that. We took really simple DHRA rules to them. They hafta run it by the insurance company. Long and short of it is, we ain't going to be sanctioned without safety equipment. Loops, kill switches, fire suit, helmet, extinguisher, blankets, TACH hookup for sled.

Not looking good.

Went with 8000# FWIW

Because there's an RPM limit in the "rules". That should just be dumped. But it's probably too late. The insurance company drives this deal.

I suppose they'd let us run "unlimited" R's if we use loops and kills and suits and blankets. oh my.

Haven't heard back yet. I may have to take a season off to get my truck "safety-ized"
