I've heard this on another site. It's NOT an Allison. The guy seemed like a D. C. insider who leaked a little about the Mega-Cab long before it came out. He said that D. C. tested Allison 1000's but even though they were pretty decent they would still fail behind the ALMIGHTY C :-laf . Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything... . Doug

1000 Allisons don't necessarily fail. They typically go into a protection mode called "Limp Mode" that can be reset by cycling the ignition. I'm sure they can make any existing trans strong enough..... the aftermarket can.

there have been rumors floating on the allpar forums about DC maybe using an aisin 6 speed in the future, but rumors they still are

Not a rumor. 68RFE is a reality. Based off of the 545RFE that is currently used behind the 4. 7/5. 7 engines. I think it is a 2007 MY option. Just do a search on it. This has been disucssed many times before.

The real issue is NOT about 6-speed autos - or *10 speeds* for that matter, but rather, whether DC after 11 years or so is competent to actually build an automatic that will function reliably and LIVE behind the Cummins in the sort of use many of us BUY a truck for in the first place!
