i posted this before but its driving me nuts. what are all the things that could cause and engine to rev between 1500 and 2000 rpms without the throttle cable connected. i would like to fix the problem before i sell the 97'. engine runs good and strong besides this. there was no warning when it started. i was on a small hwy and was going to make a turn. when i pushed in the clutch it took off. just looking for possible suspecs. thanks.

May be the throttle is sticking?

We have a EM6 in one of the Mack trucks at work. When the throttle retun spring broke, the engine would shoot up to 2k REAL fast.

Governor problem? Gov springs need adjusted, or retainer nut needs to be tightened up?

would tightening the nut lower rpms? i dont understand how the governer works. i thought the throttle was sticking but the rpms go up and down without touching the pedal. i disconected the throttle cable from the pump and nothing happend. the throttle cable worked fine off the pump too. thanks for the ideas! keep em coming when they you guys.

There is a recall on the throttle cable on these trucks. The cable can frey inside the casing causing it to catch.

I'd make sure the truck is REALLY returning to idle before I started chasing anything.
