one of the places i deliver to,gave me a pair of running boards. they are extruded aluminum painted black with no slip tape. i have no idea what they are supposed to fit. i have held them in place and i think they look pretty good. my problem is ,what kind of bracket to use. there looks to be some sort of pocket that a bracket could slide up into under the truck. maybe 4 or 5 spots. any ideas would be appreciated.

thanks,

mike

Make your own!

I replaced an extruded set with a diamond plate set. Both are fairly cheap sets and both used the same mounting brackets.

Basically, you need 4 pieces of 1 1/2" x 1/8" thick steel angle. Mount 2 of these to ach board (1 front & 1 back) and then mount them to the body (NOT THE FRAME!!) with some smaller (3/4" x 1/8") vertical strips, 2 per angle. Ther are places to screw these to the body.

What you end up with is the angles being supported by the vertical pieces. Yes, it is a bit of a pain, but the price was right.

If you want more info, I could fax you a copy of the instructions tomorrow.

I Like The Frame

I would always mount the braces to the frame. I do not like drilling holes in the body. To each his own.

You can do it that way but if you mount it to the frame, there won't be any support near the running board. You also have to allow plenty of clearance between the body and the board for flex.

I like it when guys mount to both, first ditch they drive through pops all the bolts out of the body.

The little groves in the bottom of mine are for bolts with very thin, squared off heads that slide into the groves and the mount through the angle iron. I made extras for extra braces by grinding down reglar bolts, I used the angle iron that has holes all along---made it easier to match up with out a lot of drilling. I added two braces to each piece beyond those that came with the boards.

I am one like extreme mentioned. On my last three trucks I have mounted to both frame and body, and I have yet to incure any damage at all, and all my trucks go on annual elk hunts and various varmint hunting camping trips where there is significant off road work-----crossing ditchesetc, and last year hitting a pretty mean bar ditch when I met a truck and trailer on a curve taking his half the road out of the middle. It was a good bounce and a sideways slide as I bounced back out. Boards stayed right where they should and all bolts in place.
