Hello all... I'm thinking about selling my Diamond Plate boards and mudflaps and getting something different.

I'm torn between the auto-extend style boards, or wheel-to-wheel nerfs.

I saw some tubular ones that flared out at the dually fender, but can't remember the company.

Any input on these and/other quality manufacturers, please respond!

Thanks.

I have never had nerf bars (way to expensive for my taist) but I saw These on another post on here I bought them. They are sitting in the garage waiting for the truck. They sure look very HD, and for $175. 00 shipped I could not go wrong

This will be my first reply since becoming a member. I bought an 06 Megacab, 2500, 2 WD, cummins, navigation, entertainment center, etc. in November. Basically a retirement vehicle to haul wife and grandkids around and an occasional horse or two. Just got the truck back yesterday after getting the AMP power steps put on it. They are sweet. Pretty expensive, about $1,500 installed. I weigh 270, and my son-in law weighs 300. Either of us can step up into the cab without a problem. I think what I like most is that the trucks I have stepped into with nerf bars I found my short 5'9" body pulling itself up with the grab bars and then having only a few inches left to the floor board to finish out the not so graceful entry. For some reason, using the powerstep that goes down to about 8 inches or so off the ground in my 2WD 2500 and then steping on up into the truck can be done without the grab bar. Same for my even shorter wife and 83 year old mother-in-law. Grandkids can get in without the grab bar also. They swing up under the truck and can not be seen except when the doors are opened. I saw the steps first in the 50th edition magazine.

We installed Putco Master Boss running boards on our 3500 06 quad cab dually. They have the look of bars but the flat area to step on. The good news is they are stainless steel so no rusting. The only draw back they are expensive.

Puller

I installed the Dee Zee aluminum, diamond-plate running boards on my '03, QC (fenderwell to fenderwell). They were the old style & were hard to install but, I got-em on even with my limited mechanical ability.

I chose running boards because of the protection they provide for the paint plus the ease of entry. Aluminum doesn't rust, either.

I don't know how true this is but, I've heard rumors of people getting their foot stuck between the nerf bar & the body panels, falling down & breaking their leg/ankle. The nerf bars do look nice, though.

The running boards serve multiple purposes. Makes getting into the truck, much easier, for me & protects the thin paint from rock damage from the tires.

In my search for a heavy duty nerf step setup that is stainless steel and wheel to wheel. . i came to only two manufacturers that had a great reputation, great warranty and rugged items...

Westin Platinum Series W2W oval or round nerf steps... found on Ebay for $299

and

NFABs nerf step that fits up under body tighter and has a welded drop hoop style step at the two doors on each side. I wanted them but could not find cheaper than MSRP of about $430-$450 a set. These are also out of heavy duty stainless steel with powdercoating.

Good luck...

Forgot to mention something about the AMP retracts. The day we had our baby, my pregnant 5'2" wife wanted to take my lifted truck to the hospital instead of her stock Tundra 4X4 because it was easier to get into my truck. I really think it's easier to get into it now then what it was stock. And you still keep the ground clearance. Pricey... yes. But they're awesome.

If you go with nerf bars, try to find some made from 2. 5 or 3 inch square tubing. That's what I made mine out of. Had them Line-xed. They are strong and make great steps and you don't have to just step on that little flat spot.

J&J stainless steel running boards with 3"tubes. They have the look of nerf bars with a step plate on top. Very nice, very expensive, but worth it.
