^^^^^ your first pic step is completely a waste of time IMHO. My dad installed one on his 12 DRW RAM. He removed and returned it as there was no way to reach the 5er hitch handle.

So I built him something much better and useful.

Amp also makes a Bedstep and Bedstep2. The standard Bedstep is for the rear under the left side of the bumper and the "2" is where your rear step would be. I installed both in my truck and plan on getting a 2nd Bedstep2 for the passenger side of my truck as well. Here is the "2" on the drivers side of my truck in the thumbnail pics I posted on an Amazon review I did on them. Unfortunately they are fairly spendy at near $300...

I have the Bed Step by the tail gate.. LOVE IT..

But the front Bed Step is over priced, and under performing when compared to wheel to wheel steps. While the wheel to wheel steps don't hide away, they are less than 1/2 the cost of all 3 AMP steps needed for cab and front of the bed access.

I put it on to be able to get into the tool box easier, and it works great for that. It's too far forward to be of any use for a 5th wheel hitch especially if it's a long bed. But I have an Anderson, and the release cable is mounted on the pin box so don't need to get right at the hitch. Whatever works for you.

I love mine too. Makes it much easier getting in and out of the bed. But yea, all the Amp stuff is pricey.

The amp is still awkward to reach around the lid also on the type of tool box my Dad and I have.

Good job building that! However I see yours is further back since it's a long bed which makes it easier to get to a tool box. Since I have a short bed, there is not much room to move it back, although I suppose they could have made the step a bit wider like you did. Oh well, it beats having a milk crate in the bed like I used to have to get to the box.

I've had the same set of AMP power running boards since 2008 on my 06 MC, Never once an issue and the wiring is pretty simple. Not sure if I'd want a version that piggybacks on the ODB though.

Why? I have had zero issues with mine and haven't heard of anyone having problems. If you need the port, just get a splitter or disconnect it.

My AMP running boards got delivered yesterday. They were one of the best things I put on my 06 Mega back in 2008, I had 10 years of trouble free operation... Now that truck is gone and the 2018 Mega is parked out front. It was the first thing on the accessory list for me, Climbing in without steps takes some technique... a technique my lower back does not like to perform. Best $1400 I've spent and worth every dime. I did not get the plug and play ODB piggyback version... AMP revised the install directions for the 4th gen trucks so now you don't tap the wires behind the dash, You tap them behind the TIPM module. My 8 year old daughter and I are climbing underneath the truck today to do the install.... She loves this stuff.

I did the same thing when I sold my 06 and got the 16. Love 'em!
Mine was plug and play into the OBD II port. No wire tapping whatsoever. I did have some rubbing issues on the pinch weld before I installed the motors. A quick fix is take a 3 ft long 2x4, place it between the pinch weld and board and push down on the end of the 2x4. Worked great and zero rubbing now.

Yeah my new Suburban came with factory GM ones. We already love them in that, very easy to load the baby in the car seat as she is fighting you the whole time, well not all the time, she is pretty good, but sometimes just not interested in sitting down, then they fold up out of the way, and you can keep them up or down if you want on that.

I'm thinking June will be the time to add them to the Ram, I really need to finish my 47RE in May and the clock is ticking on that already....
