Guys,

These first PIC's are really sad as I used the wifes camera to take them thinking it would be fine. Big mistake... Anyway, I think you guys will see enough in these for a start anyway and I will take others with my camera to replaces these later. You can have a look see for now though, just don't expect what I was:)

That is about it for now as the rest I shot are not any better and don't show much detail as I had hoped for. Will take more later and get them up along with the muffler delete spool pup I am going to make...

Looks like you have a good start. One question though, are you going to put anything between the body and the pipe? Some treadplate or a piece of angle to keep your foot from slipping in the gap. Just a thought. Another question, what schedule pipe are you using? Is that some schedule 40 waterpipe, thats what I used for mine. You might want to add some gussets or something where they are welded to the plates for the frame, may need them really stiffen them up. If you have that already figured in, and just not done, disregard. Just some observations from a third party who built his own. Let me know if you have any questions of me, always willing to help(or be helped when it applies). Looking forward to more pics as you get further along.

JF,

Yes its schedule 40 black seamless pipe and I have already put gussets on both the frame plates. Actually I did more than just a gusset on each plate and will have to get PIC's to show what I did. Once I am sure where this is the height I want them or cut them and move them up a little, as I am leaning toward; then I plan to weld 12ga. check plate in the spanse between 2. 5" pipe and the truck body. Will have a lip broke up on the underside of the truck body also, as I plan to mount amber side marker lights as well as a couple of clear entry lights to tie into the inside cab lights...

I am planning to sand all the welding down and have these sprayed with the bedliner stuff instead of powdercoating as I did on my 95 Ford PSD... I see lots of stuff like this being done like this now around these parts, anyone have any experience good or bad with the bedliner materail sprayed on stuff like this???

I actually have Rhinolining on mine, I even slid that step down a tree and it didn't scuff them! I imagine you could use any of the commercial liners with the same results. The liner gives a good grip too when the steps are wet. I think the marker lights in the steps should look sweet. Not sure what color you will choose, but black would look good with your white truck. This link has a pic of how mine turned out. Only regret I have is I didn't go all the way to the rear tire like you are.

Yes, I really like bringing these all the way to the rear wheels as I have along with going all the way to the frame.

It just makes these more useable for me anyway. Its a little more trouble to pipe these to the frame as well as more expensive, but makes them really strong and I have these as long as I do and no need for the center support shows the strength they have.

I also have all these over the years I have built, stick out from the side of the truck a little more than the norm. Don't probably look as good like this, but are much more useable like this and I am all for and about useable LOL...

Climbing in the back of the Gote' to release the gooseneck is a pain. Going in over the tailgate is not a good place either as just not as much room there as you need and be comfy. I climb in over the side and the running boards going to the rear wheels really helps this. Not to mention just how much better getting stuff from the tool box in the back of the truck the running boards help.

I also found an added bonus to having your steps stick out just a bit further than your sheetmetal... . keeps car doors and shopping carts off the side of my truck when you are in parking lots:) I intentionally built mine to stick out far enough to get them before they got me.

I would really like to see how it is mounted to the frame. No one will mount to the frame here and want to coble everything to the sheetmetal bo dy work.
Like you say this does not help when you want to climb into the box from the side. I would like to have one built which forms the base for a solid platform for my wife to step on getting into the truck as well as have a plate to cover the pipe to prevent all the winter spray and salt from covering the entire side of the truck. Much easier to wash off the bottom of the Running board which can be designed to with stand the punishment of all the sand, salt and stones, the current side tin and thin paint will only stop a wishful thought.

CD,

You did some digging to have found this older thread dude :) Sad thing is I have yet to finish these either. I have them on the truck and have been using them, I just have yet to put the check plate on them and have them sprayed with the bedliner stuff...

I have kept thinking I would get the time for this as well and all I do is find something else I don't like what I can buy to address whatever on the truck I want to change or make better, and then start that project myself as well:)

I will see if I can shoot a few PIC's of these in how they are mounted up to the frame tomorrow and get them hung up on here through.

looks good,i wish all nerf bar mfg's. would bring the bars out as far as you did to protect our trucks from all of the jack ***'* that fling open their doors on to our 50k trucks.
