I moved this thread to get a little more exposure.

I was wondering if any one had running boards like these http://www.toughcountry.com/dodge/pages/11_dodge_jpg.htm and what brands you have and approximate price? I know that there are a lot of different types like chrome or SS but am more interested in the black like in the web link above. Also how are the ones you have mounted. The one in the picture require no welding or drilling holes in the truck frame they mount to the cab mounts. I would prefer not to weld or drill holes in the frame. I do knot want to start a war about welding or not welding to the frame. These would go on the 05 in my signature. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

LJ Filer... . I have those running boards on my truck. I happen to love them. One word of caution though, they are very heavy. I think the shipping label said they weighed 220 lbs for the pair. I installed them myself with a floor jack and some jack stands, but it would be easier with help. They do help keep the rocks from chipping the rocker panels. There are 2 pics in my gallery that show the boards.

LJFiler,

I don't see in your post if you have a SB or not. If you want box boards and have a 6' bed DeeZee, which I ordinarily recommend, will not provide a solid step unless you fabricate your own supports. It is a desing flaw they are working on.

The DeeZee running boards (Guardians) are similar to the DeeZees I had on my '95 and are very solid, requiring only 6 holes total on the pinch rails. The box boards require 12 holes on the box supports and will not support the weight of a man (190 lbs. in my case. )

I looked at your link. Those look a lot like my black Guardians but don't have a front mudflap, which I like to have. If the price is about the same you might want to consider DeeZee.

LJFiler,

I just ordered a set you are asking about. I have a single wheel QC long bed, and I'm getting the wheel to wheel boards you ask about. Here's a better picture of how they look. Mine are $705 without shipping, and $998 with shipping, so I believe they weigh 220 lbs. I can't wait to get them installed. No more stone chips!!

Udaloy,

When you write wheel to wheel do you mean one solid board from the front to rear wheels?

Thanks,

O.

That makes sense to me also, but DeeZee uses a two piece system which is the problem.

On my 2nd gen the two piece system worked well because there was a pinch rail and a frame support for the box rails. On the 3rd gen the DeeZees have only one support point at the box support.

Too late now but probably should have gone with a system like you gents have.

Those N-Fab bars look pretty stout - I am still waiting to hear back from them on getting me a picutre of a Dodge with their bars, and mounting details. I am dissapointed to hear they mount to the pinch rail. I am worried something that strong will damage the truck if it encounters an obstacle off road. My dad destroyed a nerf-bar type step on his '01 by driving up over a rock and dropping the truck on it. The bar was flattened against the truck, but the truck was not seriously damaged. That N-Fab bar might tear the pinch rail off before it bends. On a side note - Smittybilt now makes something similar to the N-Fab that I think looks better.

The Tough Country stuff looks stout too - but I have tried twice to get them to email me back with details, and I am not too inclined at the moment to to try again.

That's interesting because Craig at Tough Country has returned my emails quickly. You can call him directly at 979-543-1054.

If you're looking for a real nerf bar that will protect your body, you cannot get one that attaches to the pinch rail. It would just defeat the purpose.

I have a long bed and planning to go wheel to wheel. I actually stopped in the Tough Contry shop and looked at the running board very well built and pretty heavy, also the boards are one piece. I will most likely go with these boards, but was wanting to get others opinion and views.

Thanks for the replys and keep them coming.

My N-fabs have held up very well. I admit to changing the istall a bit by using lock washers rather then the one they sent (theirs are too big) other then that a right angle drill solved all problems. I got pics in my reader rig and if you want you can call me at 571-238-8056 and I'd be glad to tell you how much I like them and the Wife does too. They work better with at least 2 people to install (which bar/board don't?) but you can install yourself if it comes down to it.
