Has anyone else seen this?

My running lights are on at all times... . The wiring is correct. Factory installed harness. Verified it with several different plugs in it.

Testing the receptacle on the truck, works fine.

Retested a known good adapter. On all time... . wiggled adapter and could get correct opperation.

Seems to me like a short between the +12v contact and the running light contact when a plug is plugged in.

Nothing visible from the receptacle end that would explain it.

Has anyone had their factory receptacle go wacko on them?

THanks for the help.

Here's a possibility. The continuity light on my Jordan brake controller was glowing dimly when no trailer was connected! I disassembled the factory 7-pin connector and the harness plug that goes into it (on 2002 models) and found both full of water and crud. After cleaning both out with WD-40 and packing them with dielectric grease, no more problems. The garbage in the connector and/or plug was creating a high resistance short between the pins.

You might want to check this out in yours. The same thing would happen, as you say, if +12VDC were shorting to the running light pin.

Thanks Rustyjc,

I'll check that out.

Any other ideas out there? It sure is a pain to have to unplug the trailer to make sure my battery doesn't run down!

If your plugs are clean, make sure you have not switched your charge line and the running lights wire. Not hard to do I know done it before. good luck :( :(
