Running offroad diesel fuel in highway use trucks

I grew up in the People's Republic of New Jersey, and the state revenuers, in uniform, would dip our trucks regularly at our place of business.

I have had my 1 Tons pulled over and checked on the side of the highway here in Northern MN. The first time this happened to me was in 2002 or 2003.

CBlack is right on target. Here in northern Florida, the DOT man will not only dip, but he will sample the fuel filter/separator drains as well. The fine is $10,000 and no appeal. In the 12 years I had my Y2K, I got checked 3 times but I know folks who have been checked regularly by different officers, I don't know why they get targeted as much as they do. The fine is STIFF!!!!

I think I remember reading somewhere that the red dye can have a negative effect on the dpf in the ISB6. 7 trucks.

I also have a license to buy off-road diesel and use small quantities for my Kubota tractor. I believe the off road diesel sold by my local farmer's co-op is low sulfur, not ultra low sulfur diesel.

That makes two or three reasons why I would never burn it in my truck. Red dye, LSF, and the risk of a huge fine. All are bad news.

Last I've head all refiners have not changed over to USLD or whatever it's called. That was a few years ago, they may all be changed over by now.

My 98 has a roll-over/anti spill valve about 1/2 way down the filler neck, so how would they get their dipper down into my tank?
Of course I know how they could get a sample from under my hood, but I'm not sure how many of the state or federal "workers" would be motivated enough to do that. Pulling a sample from under my hood could definitely put them at risk of getting their hands dirty, and maybe even a little something on their shirt?
Another question. What about the guys burning their home-brew veg. oil? Are they also susceptible to getting the $10,000 fines?
In all my years of driving, in every state, I've never seen or had any experience with people checking diesel fuel.
Where I buy fuel here in WI I have a choice of two diesel pumps, sitting side by side. One is for off-road use ONLY, (About $. 40/gal. less) and the other for highway use. I'll have to admit that at least several times I've been tempted to grab the off-road hose. If for no other reason just for the personal satisfaction and a form of peaceful protest against all the political bureaucrats that are constantly yanking our chains and smiling about it! So far I'm still in the thinking stage, primarily because I would never forgive myself for letting them get a $!0,000 last laugh.
Just to clarify, I'm not against taxes, just about being overly taxed!

Given that the USofA came into existence as part of a tax revolt then tax avoidance is your duty. In any case, some people -- like farmers -- can use marked fuel on public roads.

I've been getting hit with $25 EasyPass toll charges on our recent trips pulling my little 26 ft trailer. Tolls are killer.

I think Houston Texas has one toll road on a fancy new commuter expressway. I don't know of any other toll roads in the state of Texas. We have only wide open spaces where I live.

There are tollways in and around six different cities in TX. Texas Tollways

Toll roads suck. I was at Shepard AFB Wichita Falls Tx and went to see a buddy in Norman OK. Took the H E Bailey turnpike ( not sure of spelling ) paid the toll mashed on the gas didnt know that there would be another toll booth got to the booth the guy said $56. 00 please. I asked him what the hell am I paying for the damn road or what. He just said dont speed and you wont pay so much. guess they know how far from booth to booth and how long it should take to get there. Oh well young and dumb I guess.

I haven't worked since 04 and I'd bet I pay at least as much taxes that you do. Well maybe that's a little stretch, but more than average.
My state is #2... . behind Connecticut in the most taxed.

Become an O/O and you will do what you have to in order to make ends meet Im not proud of some of the things I did when I owned my own truck but thats life and ill some how get over it. Whats worse 120K on a 80K truck or reddye?

Back when I was an OO the fuel wasnt dyed. I ran road fuel anyway.

The fuel stations on the other hand were buying who knows what.

Some of the fuel stations we went to were siting on a rail spur and the rail road has had red dye for a very long time :-laf I told you Im not proud of all the things ive done but for the Rail road ill live with it

Not one iota of difference between you and the welfare parasites. Get a free ride on our public roads and expect others of us who pay the fuel taxes to pick up your share of the tab for their construction and maintenance.
