Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) running rough

I started my truck and I could put it to the floor and it would blow greyish smoke and the rpm would not go over 1100 but as i was heading to the dealer it started running fine blowing black smoke like normal I took off the fms box and left on the timing box it has a code p0216 any help thank you

Your VP44 is probably toast. Get your wallet out.



P0216 (M) Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure or possible wrong or incorrectly installed pump keyway.

thanks for the reply so you think it is the pump that is what I thought to because going down the road at 70 you could put it to the floor with no response to the rpm then you get back in it and it would take off I have a dealer that was going to replace it but when I went up there the truck started running fine so I brought it back home and pulled the codes I guess I will call the service mgr. and tell him the code you think that will be enough to get it replaced thank you Aaron
