I'm a new 2007. 5 owner of a Quad Cab 5. 9 48RE with 31,000 miles.

I've been playing with the tow/haul mode and noticed that I get about 1 mpg better in tow/haul mode in city driving. The torque converter hooks up right away and the shifts are much more crisp. I've always heard firmer/crisper shifts are better. Is this right.

I'm in the process of getting an Amsoil drop in air filter, changing all the fluids to Amsoil (except maybe oil), perhaps a CFM intake, and a cool hose. I'm also thinking about the new Bully Dog GT. Looks cool.

After summer I'm gonna put some bigger meats on the truck. Thinking about the toyo 285/75/17's.

Any comments on the above would be appreciated.

Thank god I bought the 5. 9. Some salesman almost had me talked into buying a 2008 6. 7 for $2,500 more.

Many guys drive with the tow/haul on all the time. I wish my 04. 5 tow haul worked like the tow haul on th 06 and newer. The more your TC is locked up, the better mpg's you will get.

how does the "tow/haul" mode differ from "O/D off" on the earlier trucks?

I have a set of 35 Toyo Mt and wish I had the 285/75 AT. I noticed quicker throttle response with the bladerunner intake, similiar to the cfm

Overdrive off

In Tow/haul on the 2006/2007 we can still run in Overdrive. It holds it pretty good. With the Overdrive off, it will obviously not shift into overdrive.

I like the much crisper shifts and sooner lockup of the torque converter of the Tow/Haul mode.

Do you mean your an owner of a 2007 because the 2007. 5 models had the 6. 7 in them to meet EPA regulations or are you an owner with a 6. 7 (2007. 5) with 68re auto trans?

i had a little box from BD in my 2005 48 RE that let you run in T/H with O/D on or off, it made it just like the 2006 where you hit the T/H button twice and it locked out O/D.

:)I drive my 07 5. 9 in tow haul 100% of the time and no issues. :D

I'd like to run in tow/haul mode all the time.

Is there a way to make that the default selection so I don't have to hit the button every time I start the truck?

Tow Haul mode been good to me

I have been driving my 2006 with the tow haul mode on for 50,000 miles now.

No problems and I agree with the mpg increase.

Bully Dog / Smarty ?

So, will the fact that running in tow mode gains me around 1 to 1. 5 MPG around town by locking the torque converter early offset gains that a smart/bully dog or other chip/programmer would give me?

I know that they advance the timing a bit and add hp/tq. However, most people show 1-3 mpg gains with these thing. I know the bully dog firms up the trannsy in tow mode. Will the fact that i'm already running in tow mode offset that?

Thanks.

I also run in tow haul 95% of the time. I like it better then 'normal' mode. I have a Smarty and I think the low end torque that the Smarty gets helps the Mpg in tow haul mode. The less that TQ is slipping the better in my mind. I run the Smarty on #7, with max timing, stock rail press.

I have a 2002 Durango with the 4. 7 and the 45RFE trans. In city and stop/go traffic when I run with the OD off, I notice at least a 1mpg but more like 2mpg's improvement and it just feels like I'm getting more power to the ground. It will pull a small grade at 1200-1300 rpm at 35mph, but if I have the OD on, the same hill will require 1900 rpm... It feels like the TCC is locking in 2nd and 3rd instead of waiting for 4th.

I don't drive the '03 RAM as a daily driver, but am definately going to try it with the OD off up to 45mph.
