Running Two EU3000s?

I have heard of many running two EU2000s together but what about the 3000's--anybody doing it?

For the kind of money you'd be spending to do it, you could have a real nice Onan instead- quiet and efficient and less to lug around.

My thought process was that for many applications (when no AC is needed) one EU300o would be enough. When going to locations when AC is a must I could take two.



It might cost a little more (not all that much though when you factor in the installation on an Onan--my RV does not have the gen prep) but then I would have two gensets that could be used for many different uses outside of sitting in an RV.



I am just thinking about other options, and would like to know if anyone else is running two 3000s.

A friend of mine run his AC off of 2 EU2000s

I heard from a friend that tried it--that two EU2000s did not have the grunt to start a 15,000 BTU AC unit.



Plus I think just enough is never enough.

There are a number of those running Dometic and Coleman Mach 15 BTU air units on a single EU3000. It should handle a single unit without a problem.

Sure, the EU3000 might start and run a 15,000btu A/C unit, but it won't run anything else at the same time. The 3000 is it's PEAK rating, it's meant to run at 2600 watts. Also, figure in the altitude de-rating of 5% per 1000 ft. for these generators.



Most campers with a built in generator start at 4500 watts and go up from there.



Most RV's are set up for 30 amp service minimum. 30 amps X 120 volts = 3600 watts minimum required to run everything in it at the same time, at sea level.

I'm not trying to start a :-{} fight here, but my Dometic 15K air is on a 20A breaker. We camped this summer in Silverton, CO area (elevation more than 9500 feet). I didn't run our AC because I don't even have a genset yet. I was using a borrowed EU2000 just for the basics, but our friends were running their EU3000 with the AC on as well as TV's, inverter, etc and had no trouble at all. He said he does shut the air off if wants to use the microwave, but also said he's never actually tried to run both at the same time. I've never heard of anyone having trouble with an EU3000 though. Heck, on IRV2 I remember a thread about a guy wondering why an EU2000 would run his AC .

I must have gotten a great one, but mine will run AC, TV & dish, and the microwave as long as the AC does not cycle. The manufacturer says it takes 41 amps to start the AC and 14 to run it. It burns . 25 gals. per hour doing this and . 1 without AC. I checked on the Onan and it is a good unit, but I prefer the flexibilty of the Honda. It amazes every RV owner I have talked with as we stood over the generator.

From the sounds of it, I'd say you have a 13. 5 BTU air, not a 15... . But I could be wrong.
