Steve,
Sorry if I misled you, I'll have to look at my frame this weekend... What I did notice was the drivetrain parts, driveshafts, and misc. rear end parts... Yea I know they are way thick, but also very unsightly..... Hecho en Mexico

This Por-15 stuff sounds like a great product. Anybody have any experience on how long it will last, or how well it holds up through time?

Thanks,
Ryan

I don't know but I already have the passenger side battery leaching acid and don't have the rust under it but different parts of the frame are showing rust. Not bad but they are noticable. The battery I'm suspecting is a cell going bad with only 20 months on it( made the payment today). #ad

IMHO, the spray-on rustprufing (the stuff in the aerosol can) is better than nothing but isn't good for long term rust protection. I think Ziebart is pretty good if applied thoroughly but there is not a franchise near here -- are they still in business?

Colin, are you saying that you have rust on your undercarriage already? We must've had totally different experiences, I've had 3 GM trucks and my brother had 3 as well - none of them had anything on the undercarriage painted and they rusted nearly immediately. My Dodge is all painted underneat and I have a tiny bit of rust here and there but very little - that's after 3 Michigan salty winters too. Is your frame and undercarriage painted? Maybe they stopped doing that sometime after 98. 5 - that would suck!

Don't know if there is any truth to this but one of my local auto body dealers advised my to stay away from the undercoating in a can as it acts as a sponge and holds the moisture against the frame. They advised to paint it with a rust inhibitor paint such as por 15 would be the right choice.

Consider yourself lucky - if you were driving a GM truck your entire frame and undercarriage would be rusted with 6 months to a year because they don't paint it at all. Your frame will last a LONG LONG time even covered in rust (go under any GM truck older than 2 years)!

Good news! My family was extremely lucky. I just went out to the garage and driveway and looked at the frames on our '70, '83, '89, and '00 GM trucks, and every one of them was painted!

I live near Eastwood, I went in there and got something called coraless (spelling?) it was expensive, but not 44. 00 a pint. The stuff is great, I used it on a VW floor pan, just painted over the rust. I use it on any holes I drill to mount accessories. I heard about it from people that restore old cars. and sware by it. Its red primer coler, you can sand it and paint over it if you want.
