Imron is an aircraft paint.

Don't know what the US Military is using today for the flat paints, but 20 years ago, when planes were still painted glossy with colorful tail art, Imron was the paint of choice for the USMC.

The paint shop NCOIC used to run a nice side business shooting cars with Imron in between planes.

I always thought that 'Imron' was exclusively German paints? I didn't know our forces used it on our equipment? Interesting little tidbit... ... ... .....

???German Paint???

Imron is a polyurethane brand owned DuPont. While DuPont was French, he came to the US in 1800 and founded the company. Been a good ol' USA company ever since.

Maybe they license the formula to the Germans. Don't know - all the cans we used were DuPont.

Are you talking about the Imron 'Glasurit' line of paint? (i think that's the correct spelling of it)

I don't know anything about 'Glasurit'.

Imron is an established (20+ year) and trademarked brand owned by DuPont. I'm sure a company like DuPont registered their trademarks internationally, thus they may have licensed the name/formula to your Glasurit outfit.

I've heard of polishing turds but this is getting rediculous :D

Ive also heard; if it dont run, CHROME it!... . nice looking CHROME diff cover there RacingDaulie! LOL

I'm just kidding... dont get excited! its all in fun... . really!

At our shop the POR-15 reduced and sprayed has turned out some very nice work over properly prep'd (media blasted) frames etc. a very durable finish from what i have found too.

I think that's what the deal is... . Glasurit must have been bought up by Dupont... .

Personally I prefer to use PPG paints over Dupont..... I have time to decide...
maybe keep the raw look like that - stencil in tribal flames- apply that Harlequin paint to the flames only and then clear the entire frame... ... Raw prepped metal with ghosted tribal flames-cleared- man!! now that would look killer!!

Have you decided on what your gonna do ?

Well, since I will not be taking my truck apart to do the job, I was thinking of grinding off the rust spots and applying the encapulator product. Does that sound like a good idea?

Thanks

Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator Product is a good protector- and you can thin it down 20% with lacquer thinner for spraying, are you gonna apply a top coat after the application of the Encapsulator? Has a sort of flat appearance.....

I might. I will have to wait to see what it looks like first.

No turd polishing here... . RacinD. you must have a shop with a quick turnaround on chrome eh? personally I'm a powdercoat freak!

you can actually thin brushable rustoleum with mineral spirits and spray it too.

I was only playing into that turd thing there:-laf

No- my bro has a buddy that does chroming for a living and I bought 'extra covers' while I waited...

Powdercoating is nice and durable and can be applied in many colors and styles of presentations of the final finishes.....

I like it too- but I actually have a fetish:eek: for Thermal Barrier Coatings... ... ... Oo.

Ahhhh:( - rustoleums not that great..... it is cheap- and qwik- but that's all... ... ... ...
