IS it worth the money on these newer Rams to have them rustproofed? Im having a Rhino liner installed this week and they suggested that I should have it rustproofed.....

This is a classic question. Bottom line is: it depends on what you're willing to spend, how much spare time you have, and whether you think rustproofing is worth anything at all. You will get people with opinions on the subject that are all over the map.

I did not have mine rustproofed, for a number of reasons, not least of which being I don't think the stuff works. Instead, I try to keep the water drains flowing freely, I painted most of the undercarriage with flat black rustoleum, I touchup the undercarriage whenever I notice a rust spot forming, and I perform regular inspections of the underside during warm weather and oil changes. I've recently begun coating some parts with white lithium grease in an aerosol can (although I recently read that lithium grease is NOT the best anti-oxidant formulation).

Do you have the time, desire, and equipment to keep up with maintenance like that? Do you think rustproofing actually works?

I had a truck with rustproofing. It stayed nice for years, then the stuff started peeling and trapping salt/water benief it, causing it to rust out completely within a couple years.

My feeling is if you have it rustproofed, spray the whole bottom with diesel fuel every few years to keep the stuff soft.

Around here most folks get their vehicles sprayed with oil for about 30 or 40 bucks. The places will drill into strategic places, spray and plug the holes if you want them to. If you drive down a dusty road after getting it oiled, the dust coats the oil and it stays on longer.

I will wait and get mine oiled later on.

i get my truck sprayed yearly with rust proofing stuff. . the thick undercoating stuff is 100% useless in my opinion... the stuff i get sprayed on drips for days [my place oversprays like crazy] the runnier the oil, the better it is. .

I get my truck sprayed with crown undercoating. The drill holes in your body panels and spray it in, as well as to spraying the whole undercarriage. Only downside to this is that it has to be reapplied every year. I have no real proof that it works, and only time will if it saves my truck from rusting.

The place I get my truck sprayed has a contract to do all of the vehicles at the nearby military base. I would hope that since the military is using my tax dollars on this undercoating, it actually does work.
