Rusty mirror bolts

I have the big chrome mirrors on my '95 and the 4 bolts that hold it onto the door look terrible. I have replaced them with what D/C called "stainless" but within a year they were brown too and getting rust run lines on my paint. Is there any reason why I couldn't use just regular stainless steel bolts? or does someone have a better idea? I am having my truck repainted soon because of the sandy red paint that my regional guy says he has never heard of...

I've bought stainless bolts from hardware stores and then buffed them on a buffing wheel (used an elec. drill to run it) I got them really mirror-bright. They stayed that way for 10 years until I sold that truck!
